$550.00 each for Doors?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Curly, Sep 11, 2003.

  1. I sent a kite (Oops I meant E-mail) to a dude who has a boneyard in Ft Collins, Colorado asking him if he had any 26-27 T or 28-29 Closed cab pickup doors for a cowl that I picked up. He replies that he has some and they're in "darn good shape", $550.00 eack + S&H. WTF? Is this the going price for theses doors? Shit I picked up a complete chopped 26-27 Sedan/Cab for less than this!

They keep going up cuz nobody repops them or even makes patch panels.
The 26-7 T coupe and the 28-9 p/u are not 100% identical but they do fit just fine.
Ive 26 & 27 coupes and it was a long time finding doors I could fix. Built an English wheel and a bead roller just for that project. If I counted all my time I probably have $2k in each door; I dont work cheap!

Don't feel bad, I was quoted $400 each for lower quarter panels for my 60 Buick. Sent pics of the QP's, they weren't in any better shape than mine.

Some people equate old car = lots of $$ for any part off it.

Looked for a vent window assembly (cast metal) for a '54 Caddy...found one, was quoted $395.00 for it...told him I didn't need it that bad as I only paid $800.00 for the whole car...old cars equate to $$$$ for a lot of people...uhmmm, make that vultures!

yeah, i love seeing people on ebay selling things like a 60 pontiac steering column w/wheel for like $300-$400. They never have any bids but they keep listing shit for that much.

  7. Yeah that happens Switchblade, but go try and find that wheel in good shape??????????????? Or the T coupe doors?????????????????? There are certain things that are worth the asking price.

Just watch our own HAMB classified. Notice how many people are looking for those doors? I bet I've seen 4-5 wanted ads for them this year. Just as many wanting 28-29 roadster doors. That said, I have a decent pair of your 28-9 PU doors that I might be willing to trade for some 28-9 roadster doors. Of course $1100 would buy them too [IMG].

I've seen A model roadster and phaeton doors go for big money. A dude told me he sold some 32 doors for 1500 bucks each, but I wouldnt think T doors would bring that kind of cash.

Do me a favor and thank the guy for doing his part to make hot rodding ridiculously expensive. Freakin headlights go for $2000 because of morons like him. [IMG]

Don't feel bad...I've got over $1000 into the front end of my '51 Merc...THE FRONT END! That's not including fenders or hood! The prices are astronmical for all the stock bullshit that these cars had. All this stuff I have needs to be plated yet, too. I was just buying nice straight parts to replace my damaged, non-repairable stuff! I paid $250 for a '55 DeSoto grill. It's a damn DeSoto! But because it is a "popular" swap for a Merc, all of a sudden the price goes up three-fold. Don't even get me started on E-Bay. $350.00 for a set of good, stock, Merc skirts? Sheesh....................

And to all you who think I paid too much, try finding a '51 Merc PART anywhare around Detroit. If I lived out west, I't would be a different story. You simply won't find shit out here. Swapmeets? Sure, they're great if you own a '65-'73 Mustang, or '67-'69 Camaro! Sometimes, if you want to play, you have to PAY.

I should try to repop CORRECT Merc Rockers. I bet I'd make a KILLING! [IMG]

true slazzen, the older something gets and is a collectable, it will gain value... amazing how at one point, this stuff was plentiful, now you have people scrounging through rusted hulks and digging up *gems* from the mud pits...

O/T but along the same lines, there are people who travel through ww2 battlefields in eastern europe hunting for relics and other military oddities... fucking amazing what they are finding out there. tanks, halftracks, human remains, soldiers personal effects... they turn around and sell the stuff for profit

i was talking to a ford restorer i work with this week, he was checking out a 55-7 T-bird at the goodguys show for sale, asking price was 8500. this car was FULL of bondo, so bad it looked like a cheap fiberglass replica from a distance. he was interested in it for a PARTS CAR! he could only justify it being worth about 5G inparts though. and that was WITHOUT the desireable accessories like power steering or the engine dress up.

I bought a doorless 29 cab locally for $200. Bought one door on ebay for $87. The other door I ended up getting from model T heaven for I think $275.
I saw a set at the swap meet last year for $400 a pair but missing latches, they do not repop the latches to my knowledge.Any doors you buy, make sure they come with latch assemblies. Good luck.

  17. Ray, I saw pics of that car. Two of our locals thought 6 tops and thats with them splitting the cost at 3K each!

  18. I bought my T body (now belongs to Billetproof Dude) for $180. The same guy wanted 300 for a pair of doors that needed a lot of work. That should tell you how easy these doors are to find.

Yea, and everytime I wait for a cheaper deal, the price goes up more, and I still dont have what I need. I remember a set of 31 roadster doors last year that I was too cheap to buy, ended up paying alot more for some.

I bought a set of doors for my, 28 Model A for $ 325.00 for the pair, The guy was a restore, He had a bunch of T stuff, I will see if I still have his # lying around, Just do not tell him your a hot rodder... Y ou are aren't you?

  21. Am I a hot rodder? No actually I lurk in the shadows of the HAMB to secretly buy/steal parts for my restoration of Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Peirce Arrows, and an occasional Ghia but a customer really wants me to do his parts hauler up real pretty like so when he goes to use it for a lawn ornament in his mansions backyard the kids will not get rust stains on thier little sailor boy outfits.

Yeah if I had to pin a name on what I am hotrodder would be in there somewhere right along with tattooed, alcoholic, biker, partying moron that is recovering from some sort of delusion or another. My current delusion is that I'll get a pair of these doors in good shape and cheap. Maybe I need a 12 step program? Step 1 get english wheel. Step 2 get bead roller. Step 3 let fingers heal.

If ya can get me that number I'll pretend real good that I'm doing a resto on my grandfather's old truck to surprise my dad for his 65th birthday/retirement party! I've limited on funds and I got 6 1/2 months to do it! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

  22. Ross @ valleyvintageauto.com has em. $125-250 ea canadian funds and he's only 5 or 6 miles from the U.S. border at Blaine Wa. A friend of mine is looking for one door and thinks these prices are excessive.
