Jeff, how much could a 392 make with the 4x2 crager,im sure you did the research,i have one i want to build my 392 around(love the look ) but would like 450 horse
Oh boy, where to start.... The physical lobe placement, on the shaft, is decidedly different between the 331-354 and the 392. On some race pieces the differences may be harder to spot but they are still different. I will try to get some pics of the differences but try this....with a cam shaft in hand (either one), place lobes #13 & 14 in the 'up' position. Note the apparent alignment, or lack of alignment between the two lobes. Now do the same with the other shaft and note the difference. This is simply the best place to see the differences. The differences are a fundamental requirement of the change in the angle of the lifter bank in the taller deck. The bank angle was changed to reduce the pushrod angle. They use the same t-chain! There is no difference. You can buy a cam from anyone you choose, but you need to know the basics or you'll forever complain about the 'lack' of performance. .
Coopsdaddy....The main reason was the use of 97's... sorry.I can't stand them... there pretty...but they leak pretty good. You just can't put fuel pressure to them.(just MY exp.) And with the 4 in a row Cragar...you can only run the 97 because of the tight stacking inline.I am with you,.a very pretty set up,but not for what I was doing at the time. I had a trio of them on my 241 and the lil red ram bathed out so many times..It finally coughed a main bearing. Some folks run them with success.....I had none. Now if your talking a Rochester....well.thats a whole different story.I would love to run a 6x2 under mine..but its a big outlay of cash to build 6 rochesters and start fresh.... mmmm I do have a 6x2....
