Technical 55Chevy, 32 Ford, Model A

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by alphabet soup, Oct 2, 2023.

  1. I'm working on a Model A Jalopy, kinda thing. Best I can figure the chassis is a 30-31. I bought (but haven't got it yet) a 55 Chevy rear that was in a 32 Ford pick-up with the stock 32 spring. Does anyone know off-hand if it will bolt in to the Model A frame? If not, why? Thanks, Gene.

  2. The stock '32 spring mounts behind the axle. Model A has the spring on top.

The 32 spring has a soft arch in two directions. The A spring has a sharp arch upward. They couldn’t be too much different if you tried.

You could build an offset mount off the rear crossmember and mount it that way. I don’t recall the spring offset distance.
