56 3200 price check???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by redneckbatmobile, Aug 4, 2014.

  1. I recently purchased a 56 chevy 3200 8 ft bed. As you can see in the pictures it's mostly there. It has the original I-6 235cui motor and 3 speed in it. It was owned by a farmer original owner and has sat for the last 10 years. There's obviously a lot of work to do, but I thought it a good project over time. The motor is not locked, but doesn't run currently (I have a 327 bored over .30 I was going to swap for it). So far I've just "cleaned" it up with the pressure washer and removed dirt/crud from the cab etc. so the pictures are pre-cleaning.

There was no ***le with this truck just a bill of sale. However, the saving grace there is in Virginia they're are pretty helpful/cheap in re-***ling these vintage cars with nothing more than bill of sales and a few bucks.

I'm just curious to see what everyone thinks it's worth as-is (not including my 327) ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156550.713698.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156569.023456.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156581.323007.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156594.525650.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156609.912205.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156621.612239.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156633.342670.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156644.550805.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156656.311035.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407156666.181369.jpg to compare what I have into it. Any help here is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's worth what you paid for it,there is no reason to second guess your purchases.

Just build it and enjoy the ride! HRP

Over the years I too have come to the conclusion that if you want something, it isn't readily available elsewhere, AND you don't plan to flip it, the value of it TO YOU is indeed what you are willing to pay for it.

  4. Agreed. I guess my point was more wondering it's market value as I have some other projects (old indian motorcycles) that may be tops of my list and wanted to see worst case if I had to let the chevy go what I could reasonably launch it for to put the scratch back in the bikes. Just curious not second guessing. Thanks for the help though guys.

Around here that's a $500 truck. You didn't say what it's worth in Virginia. May be more? may be less?

around here you see guys asking 2000 and selling for 500 when reality sets in.

  13. It'd bring 500 from somebody but probably not fast in my area. I recently bought a 53 Chevy half ton, with ***le and slightly better shape for 350. I know I got a good deal but I get those good deals fairly often.
If you could drive it the price would go up quite a bit even if it is a six.

    My .02

If you're looking to sell it, your truck will be worth more if you get it all sorted and dependable. You might consider keeping it original and selling it as a survivor. Once you swap engines there are other added costs to consider.

Those trucks are probably worth more in the north east because there just aren't many around here.

  15. I saw the pictures and said 500 , I live north of houston.
Thats a very rough truck, good luck

And just for fun....measure the bed....

  17. I can't really comment on what it's worth. The other statements, that it's worth whatever you paid for it, are absurd to the max. If you paid 20K for it, is that the real value?? Of course not. Realistically, the truck is a rust bucket. The floor, the rockers, the cab corners, the rear fenders are in very poor condition. There is certainly more hidden rot and rust to deal with. I would consider it a parts truck, at best

.............................If he did pay $20K for it then it would be what it's worth to him. That's why all of these appraisal threads are such a waste of time. Obviously he's looking for some validation that he didn't over-pay for the truck or as someone above mentioned, he's trolling for potential buyers.

Sorry, I was ***uming a modi*** of intelligence in the reader. Of course paying $20k for a $500 truck doesn't make it worth $20k (can't believe someone actually thought/posted that...sigh). I think the point being made was pretty clear and clearly not that.

The banter is exactly why I said what I did, sounds like the guy has buyers remorse and is wanting to flip it and hoping he will get his investment returned. HRP

  21. I'm in California and the first number that came into my head was $500. That seems to be a pretty universal opinion.

Same here, when I looked at the pictures I thought $500 before I ever read another post. Maybe there really isn't that much difference across the country.

I should clarify: my $500 guesstimate is based on his locale of Virginia. Up here in Noo Yawk that same truck would probably fetch $750-$1,000. Supply vs demand and all that ****......typically anything that old up here is a rusted out hulk of barely recognizable make and manufacture.

  24. Ok so just to address the crowd. I paid $600 for it. And as I stated before I knowingly accepted the condition.

I'm not an idiot. I know what restoring a truck like this costs. (Probably 30k+) and it will only barely be worth that much in the end. Again... I'm not an idiot. I simply posed the question to see if it would be worth launching to fund my indian projects (those aren't cheap).

I mostly got helpful answers and I thank all of you for them :). My $600 investment was marginal because like some people mentioned I see some people asking 2k for similar projects/parts. I have a standing offer for the original power train alone at $550.

I'm not trolling for buyers guys... Just wanted a good solid community opinion

Sounds like you hit pretty close to the majority opinion. Good luck, whatever your plans.

  26. ***uming that I do posses a modi*** of intelligence, my point is, that the standard reply that an item is worth what you will pay or what you will sell it for does not address the actual question or reality. Everything has an established value, whether it is generally known or not. I do agree that the truck is worth no more than 5/800 bucks. The 20K figure that I quoted was simply hyperbole, which, very often, does not translate well in print (sigh).
All I wanted to say is that when someone gives you that old, worn out, answer, what he's really saying is, "I have no idea what it's worth, but I need to get my two cents in, anyway".

Where the truck is sitting has a lot to do with the price a seller will get out of it. Locally 500 for that truckut as is sounds right but the further NE you get in the US the more guys are willing to pay. I sold a 56 GMC big window long bed with about the same amount of rust a few years ago for 350 complete with a 283 decked out with early finned valve covers aluminum intake and Hamb friendly air cleaner. It had a clear ***le.
