Mine were gone in some places. Staples where in place tough. Tough little guys. I removed everything and called it done.

And really, how well are those staples going to hold? Not very well.

I wouldn't mind trying my hand at making a set but without a template it will be hard to get the size right. Plus I still have to find a retainer.

Also, to add to Buyme's post, Home Depot & Loews have rubber sheet goods in the flooring depts that I think will work well.
I'm also thinking about trying to make retainers from sheetmetal stock. Can't be too hard and would look very close to original, after painting?

That RCB973 is not only high priced, but his shipping charges are outrageous

    Roof,

here are the part numbers that might help:

I found a set of repro's but didn't want to pay the $100 for them. I tried Owens 3 times and keep getting the run around. I may look around at different salvage yards. I was hoping to have a set by now because I am done painting the suspension components and am going to start on the engine bay.

Just go ahead, bite the bullet and make a set. It really doesn't look that tough to do. I know you could do it a lot cheaper than the $100 for the repops.

You can buy the staples. I know that CASCO, the TBird parts house, has them. I have bought them.
I have also made my own out of stainless wire. You just have to bend them to the correct width - measure the distance between holes. They are all the same.

    Paul,
I think the hangup is the sheet metal retainers.

Yep the sheet metal retainers. I may try to mock up a cardboard template and see how it looks.
