What brand of rubber have you guys been using when putting your back windshield in? I don't know if I should buy it from Dennis Carpenter, Steele rubber products or where. I just want to make sure I put a quality product in because I don't want to pull the back windshield out again. I have heard there is some pretty low quality rubber products out there and was wondering if there is a company that stands out from the rest.
Carpenter in the past always has a very good product. Don't know if they have gone over to the China ****. Ask Steele where his stuff is made - if USA then it should be good.
The Ford Barn's 1950s-up section has a discussion on this re. '55 Victoria/Club Sedan/Town Sedan models as they also use the same gasket. Steele gets theirs from Carpenter. Lots of complaints about how bottom rubber hasn't fit quite right as it rubs on the rear deck panel under the window. Sadly it's the only one out there as the others all get theirs from Carpenter. Bear in mind '55 Crown/'56 Crown/'56 Victoria/'55-'56 Montclairs (i.e. low-roof 2-door hardtops) use same rubber, and again Carpenter's the primary source.
Thanks for the information. I guess I don't have too many choices. I wouldn't even take the back windshield out if it wasn't for installing a new headliner. The original seal is a little cracked/dry rotted but still holding good. Why can't they just make it like it was made in 1956. I just don't get it sometimes.
