Alright, just picked up a 56 coupe deville! ! ! ! I don't get it home til friday night so let's see some 50's Cad ideas so I can stay sane til friday.
My brother's '54...not exactly like yours, but close! My '55 Coop DeVille's body is about ready to re-meet its ch***is... R-
That is a beauty Slag. I don't have any pics yet, but I googled a few for anyone to photoshop for ideas. I'll have real pics of the lump on Friday nite or Saturday morn.
Our friendly member Rikster...some kool caddies there, some bigger GMs may help too. http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/
I've seen 40studedude's bro's cadillac in the flesh,it looks right from every angle.I picked up my 56 caddy CDV this summer but havn't really started on it yet apart from putting in a new windshield and freeing off the brakes.I'm hoping this thread will get the ideas flowin again. This era of cadillac already has the 'look' from the factory just need to clean er up a bit and put the wheels further up under the body. Here's mine waiting for transformation
Finally got it home today. Once the guy finally found the reg, it turns out its a 55 Thats okay and here's some pics
Thanx for the compliment MadCad...where ya been, haven't been here on the HAMB for a while, eh? That's a decent looking '56 ya got...and you know that '56 hoods are totally different than '54's/'55's, right? Got anything done to it yet? What you probably don't know is that I picked up a '55 CDV 4th of July...the last owner lost interest...Pontiac sub-frame, 500" Caddy, Turbo 400 behind it...ColoRODo car all it's life so it's rust-free. Body is off the frame right now (and please, don't anyone give me any **** about the concrete bloks holding it up...it's been sitting there now for two months...hasn't moved an inch!!!) I've had the frame sandblasted and am getting ready to paint the frame...had to reinforce the splice the previous owner did...they welded it together with a MIG...I didn't trust it, so built 1/8" plates and boxed the whole thing...TIGed it all in solid...it ain't going no where now! I've removed all the ugly heater **** from the firewall and the ugly bulges and the firewall is now flat and in primer... the underside will get Lizardskin insulation/sound and heat deadener next weekend...the frame will be painted the next...then re-mate the body and slip the engine back in. Hope to be driving it next spring. We'll be in Moab again in April, see ya there? R- (and Dan)
I'm on dial up and didn't wait for the pics to load so bear with me if you don't need them but, Weeds has a set of 56 Caddy caps for sale in the cl***ifieds. Check em if you need em. RASHY
40StudeDude... I have a 1970 472ci engine and ****** combo out of a he**** sitting on a pallet in the yard,I'm hoping to have this shoved in the 56 cdv soon ( snow permitting ,it's outside in the yard) I would like to take it to Moab in the spring, most probably still sporting the original patina and rust. I'm toying with the idea of using 18 inch steel wheels with trim rings and hub -caps ,maybe make the car look lower than it is,need someone to do a photoshop and see what it looks like. By the way what flavor Pontiac is the subframe from?
Naw...don't toy with that...use some good old 15" and wide whites...trim rings and caps then...but NOT 18's!!! The subframe is a Trans-Am, fit like it was made for it, but I'd suspect any mid-70's Pontiac or Camaro would work as well! Disc brakes, huge sway bar and still plenty or room under the fenders for nearly any kind of wheel! R-
Is the late 70's Nova subframe the same or do parts not interchange. I know the track width is 60", same as 55 cad. I have two 77 novas for parts but it would be nice to use beefier springs, brakes, and sway bar (ie. Z28, T/A) .
DHD, I do not know the answer to that...I would ***ume they are near identical...GM used a lot of stuff that interchanged, but don't actually know. R-
