Re-doing some stuff on my 56 Styleline and have a few carpet related questions. 1. Is it typical for the floor to be bare under the front seat? 2. Does the accelerator pedal mount under or on top of the carpet? (where it bolts through the floor pan) 3. Is there a specific aftermarket supplier that has cut/sewn carpet that covers from the toe board all the way under the rear cushion? Thanks in advance for the help
Most all cars have some jute padding, or cotton padding under the carpet. The Gas pedal should bolt through the Carpet. Get the carpet in place and use a awl to find the holes thru the carpet.
Here you go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-1956-F...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item27dd6e535f Be sure you read the description posted, these are made to order as they are molded one piece so figure 3-4 weeks to arrive.
Not wanting to hi jack the thread, but what is everyone's thoughts on the various sound deadening materiel for under the carpet?
I used the foil backed bubble wrap stuff for duct work found at Lowes or Home depot. it's a lot cheaper than buying it from an automotive supplier and works great
52ragtop,check out this :http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9285334#post9285334 Scroll down to post #9 I posted and you will find links to click on the thread is HUGE! The Peel & Stick is still working A+ on mine and cut down on the sound of the electric fuel pump.
when you get ready to install that carpet pull it out of the box, unfold and if at all possible leave it out in the sun for a few hours, will make it a bit easier to work.
