I have a 56 Chevy almost original. The car is updated to 12v but I am experiencing headlight problems. The headlights have been dimming and flashing about 2 minutes into driving the car. The interior lights and dash lights will work but the headlights flash. I have checked grounds and the headlight switch at the dash and it looks to be new. Also the left turn signal works fine but left makes both signals flash. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot!

They were 12v from the factory....

There's a circuit breaker in the headlight switch. If the car had a short, and the breaker overheated, it might not be able to handle the load now, and could be causing the flashing. Firt check for bare wires shorting somewhere, then you might need to replace the light switch. but I'm just guessing.

The turn signal problem is related to bad ground connections, probably there's dirt/rust/paint on the parking light sockets or housings.

The headlight switch is easy to replace and fairly cheap. If your car has been sitting (crusty) the corrosion on all the contacts is probably it. You might get away with cleaning the switch and contacts with tuner cleaner. Then use dielectric grease on the connections.

If you try to take out the headlight switch, there is a small spring-loaded button on the body of the switch (the metal part) under the dash - you must turn the knob all the way to the right or left, ( I can never remember), and then, holding the button down you can pull the knob OUT of the switch (turn on the lights). THEN AND ONLY THEN will the knob and shaft come out of the switch, allowing you to unscrew the bezel/nut that holds the swicth to the dash. It takes some fussing and fighting, but you'l get eventually.
