My buddys dad is want'n to put power steering on his 56 210. What set up does he need to be look'n for at the junkyards. He said he thinks he remembers a later model pontiac box that will bolt up with no mods but he is not sure. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Saginaw 605 power steering box fits with some modification to the steering column. Several companies sell a adapter for the frame or one can be fabricated. They came in lots of intermediate GM's but im not sure what years. Wrecking yards should know. Here's a page with some info. http://www.borgeson.com/55-57-chevy-manual-power-steering-boxes-brackets.htm
the 605 has to be modified with the stock tri five pitman shaft....used to be a couple of kits out there....here at Borgeson we sell a modified 600 (newer box) much better than the 605....but...the 605 will work but you need the kit than makes the casting longer and has the mount Part of it. call me at 8604828283 if I can help....and ps....you dont have to buy anything from me...but I will help any way I can....
Have you seen the "pore mans power steering"? It's a kit that you take the bushings out of the idler arm and put in bearings,It steers almost like true power steering and cost around $50 Check out some venders Russ
I put a Citation rack in Mine, (it's the same one sold in the $700 kits) Made My own bracket... Great power steering for under $150...... There was a article in a old Classic Chevy mag..
