56 chevy rear end replacement

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by redneckbatmobile, Jul 31, 2014.

  1. I'm currently restoring a 56 chevy 3200 (8ft. Bed). The truck will be powered by a 327 bored over .30 and a turbo 350. I'm looking for advice on a modern replacement rear to replace the old stock. Going with discs and a ifs front end. Just need some good easy fitting modern replacement ideas. Thanks everyone!

71-81 Camaro is a good one....although it's not modern any more, they're not as easy to find as they used to be.

The 1968 -1979 Chevy II and Nova has a 60.25" which is 1/4" wider than the 56 Chevy. HRP

S-10s work very well. Later models have disk brakes.
Put a 1999 S10 Blazer rear end in my grandsons 38 chevyPu.
Has disk brakes and works great.

  6. Awesome! How much modification did it take? Any particular year s-10 rear that's better than the rest? I know you said the discs but aside from that

Used 1980 Camaro rears in my 1955 Chevy wagon and 1941 Ford. They are getting harder to find.
And basically the same thing a 1980 Nova in my 1948 Chevy panel truck.

The 8.8 out of a Mustang fits pretty nice.
