I was looking at my wagon the other day and I was thinking it would look better with out the gigantic *** front bumper. Or, a smaller bumper. Anyone run a different bumper other than stock on theirs ? Would it look stupid running without the bumper ???? Pics anyone ???

  2. My father '56 nomad is Boss w/out the bumper, but does have a chrome tube running between the frame horns. Carl

You're right, it looks terrible with that ugly front bumper. Send it to me and I'll take care of it for you; like it would probably end up on my Delivery if it's in good shaqpe. I have 2 complete front/rear sets of bumpers now, but I'll take more. If you do remove the bumper, save it! Some time back, there was a posting on the site about someone who "flipped" their 56 front bumper on their wagon "upside down". It looked good and gave the illusion the wagon was lower to the pavement. Someone will know what I'm referring to and will bring the post back. Butch/56sedandelivery.

You could lose the guards, and/or smooth it and tuck it a shade closer to the body?
Just to let you know the ends are the same as 55 if you go to sell it.

Cars always look better with bumpers and you'll be glad you have it, if someone hits you or you hit something. Try turning upside down before removing it.

In the 60s around here, the street racers used Corvair front bumpers on the tri-5 Chevys to save weight and appease the local police. It became popular for the look even if it was a turd at the stop lights.:D

Taking the guards off would be and easy fix and it would help. That is probably what I will do. Trying to picture what it would look like if the bumper was upside down....

KERRY...man you wouldn't believe how much better that old huppy would look, if you pull those gaudy bumper guards off, and fill the holes with chrome bolts. and besides those bumpers are molded to fit your car...POP.

IMO, the best thing you can do is to flip it upside down so the front of the whole car is themed the same - front lean. Then mount it in closer. That usually does it :) I always wondered why both Ford and Chevy had cow catcher bumpers (back lean)?

  16. I like no front bumper but only if the car has a compe***ion look. Not good on stock or custom style.

I actually think the front bumper on a '55 or '56 chevy was a factory defect...... You need to keep the splash pan, if you remove that as quite a few do, I think looks bad with a grill and signals flapping in the breeze. Just my opinion...............

  18. Shave & Peak the hood.. Get rid of the gaurds(weld & fill guard provisions),shave the bumper bolts and fill in the license plate holes! Less is more.. I promise!

  19. Kerry find a 56 model car wagon/nomad and play with it for ideas that kinda works then take phots of it to see if it looks right, sorta a 90s version of photoshop.....I say flip it

Here's a couple of pics of mine with no front bumper. It was the first thing I did when the car showed up :).

  23. Back when I was in high school in the early '60's, no one had a front bumper on any '55-'57 Chevy. So, I would say go without it.

  24. Hell Kerry mine hasnt had a front bumper since 1974...........but I would flip yours and give it a shot............

Mine had the "all the bells and whistles" bumper treatment back in the 70's. I thought it helped to fill out the front end.
