Max load for a UHaul car hauling trailer is 5290 lbs Gross weight of the trailer is 7000 and empty weight of the trailer is 2210. Other than that is the tow vehicle requirements. 80% of 7000 lbs is 5600 on my calculator. My 1 ton meets that criteria neither my 71 GMC or 77 F150 do. When I went to the dump Sunday with my F250 and 16 ft trailer truck and trailer weighed less across the scale than the 1 ton with 10 ft flatbed does empty. Must weigh at least 3,500 lbs. (curb weight), and must equal or exceed 80% of the combined weight of the trailer (2,210 lbs.) and the vehicle being towed (up to 5,290 lbs.).
Few folks do what you do. I stopped at electronic scales in Oregon a couple months ago. My F350 CC 2WD PSD Dually with 120 gallons of diesel weighed: My custom 24 foot all aluminum enclosed car hauler trailer empty weighed: Jim
You could say the same exact thing about speeding. That kind of drives home the absurdity of your position.

That truck is about the same as my daughter inlaw's crew cab 4x4 she pulls her horse trailer or stock trailer with. The tail doesn't wag the dog with one of those. I see too many guys around here with 1/2 ton pickups or short wheel full size suvs pulling car trailers and it is a bit spooky. I live right on US 97 in Washington and see a lot of rigs pulling trailers go by.
