OK...so what is the deal with getting the front door latch out of the door? I took the lower bolt from the window channel (had to drill out the rusted bolt!) - basically does nothing. - channel still in the way. Do you have to remove the gl***? Manual says remove the lower channel bolt - I guess its supposed to fall out!? Frustrated! Please help.
On a '57, I don't believe the gl*** or channel has to come out. There are two screws on the door jam around the starwheel, and of course, the rods that attach to the lock ****on. I don't know if that's of any help for your '56.
I had to rebuild the left door latch on our Victoria. The window needed to be removed to do it. The book said no but I couldn’t do it any other way.
The latch ***embly cannot be removed unless you remove the window AND the slide the metal U shaped channel out of the way. The U shaped window felt has to be removed from the metal channel most often before the channel will slide up out of the sheet metal pocket. It is a little tricky. I have some good blog posts here: https://www.hotrodreverend.com/blog/categories/doors
Thats the ticket...Thanks. Time to replace channel, vent wing rubber and all - if its all gotta come out. All to drill a hole in the latch arm for power door locks!! I'll see if I can find another way with it in place. Thanks for your help!
Glad to help out - my blog has a quite a bit archived... hoping to add a lot more this summer. I also have a YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/@HotRodReverend/featured
