Howdy guys, newbie to this forum. I live in Bellingham WA and just bought my fourth '56 F100. It's a disassembled big window project I bought from a kind lady who lost her husband recently. I'm a devout Y block guy but this project comes with a performance 351W built ny none other than Dave Tatom of Mt Vernon WA. The frame is still in a dark and cramped corner of a shop where photos and details are tough to get (next week I've drag it home). Not many technical questions can be answered by the widow so thought I'd post an inquiry here. Can anyone identify the key components of this IFS? I appologize for the bad pics - more to come next week if needed. Is this an aftermarket subframe? The stock frame is not boxed on the insides but doubled-up outside the frame. The engine currently resting in place is just a nasty old mock-up. Any opinions on this motor mount detail would also be appreciated. Thank you.
Is it torsion bar? The upper arms look like Volare, but that is not a Mopar K member under it. Aftermarket crossmember for Volare maybe?
Good thought Phillips. The upper A arms do look a whole lot like the pics of Volare arms I see. Digging around on forums got me remembering that Gibbon produced a Mopar IFS kit but I think it was Cordoba only? This project was started several decades ago so it fits the popular Volare/Aspen option of that era. Can't wait to get her out out of the hole she's in so I can ponder what the heck I've got myself into. Here's a shot of the sweet looking 351w. Serious coin dumped into this mill so want to make sure it's resting on a decent foundation:
That has long torsion bars like a Road Runner or Charger. Volare's had cross torsion bars. I don't know what the Cordoba had for torsion bars. It was right in the middle of the switch over. edit I just did a google search and Cordoba's have the long bars like this. I'd say that's what it is. Duane in Tennessee.
