I’ve done some research for a 9” swap on a 56 100.. found a 1969 f100 9” diff and housing , the 9” housing is 1440 in length , my stock Dana 44 is I think the same length measuring on the truck , also the leaf mounts are identical so will be a straight swap. The shock mounts are different , contemplating grinding the shock brackets and re welding in a new position. Has anyone done a conversion like this before ? Seems pretty straight forward . Or is there a kit like my original ones that will work ?

I have done the swap on a few 48s and a 55 . You got the straight up swap thing figured out . I left the lower shock mount welded to the housing and used the spring plates from the donor truck , I just made an upper mount to match up with the lower for shocks . I drove my 48 with that swap for 70K plus trouble free miles . You get way better brakes and a poor mans quick change for gears on the cheap !

I’ve had my drums all re done so I’ll keep them , the brakes that came with the 9” are the same size .

do you have any photos of how you did yours ?
I got the leaf plates from it as well which will work

  5. That's the regular upgrade to the 53-56 F100. I had that in my old '54 panel, just had to weld in new shock mounts (Mid Fifty has everything you need for the swap).

If you use a 57 to 60 rear end, it bolts in and everything hooks up and no welding or cutting is necessary.

That’s how I remembered it! But I did it in about 1972..... so my memories of the swap is somewhat faded! Lol:)
