Hi all! I wanted to share a great story. I am the owner of a restoration shop in Mesa az. I had a 56 F100 as my DD. it was in need of restoration, but wasnt what is considered a traditional Rat Rod Either. No dents. No Rust. Just faded paint. Anyway, heres my story. I was driving down the highway about 8 years ago and was approached by a driver beeping the horn and giving me the "money" sign, as well as motioning me to pull over. So i reluctantly pulled over. The guy loved my truck and offered to buy it on the spot. (It wasnt for sale) so i thought. But you know the old saying. Everythings for sale if the right price is met. And met it was. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago. Im scrolling through Craigs List here in AZ and low and behold, theres my old truck! And its for sale. All the memories come instantly back of the joy of that truck and how i regretted selling it moments after it drove out of my sight. So i had to call. It was the same owner who purchased it from me, which I did some work for a few times after the sale. I asked if he was interested in trading the truck for my 67 S Code Cougar. Needing a very light restoration. He said he didnt need a project which is why he was selling the truck. It was supposed to be a Father & Son restoration. But a job loss, divorce, kid going to college and general need for downsizing toys made the need for the trucks sale. I didnt have the extra funds for the truck, but enjoyed catching up, and after the conversation i considered the truck gone for good. Well, to my surprise, i got a call back about an hour later asking if i would be interested in another trade. They own a 34' motorhome that needs new paint and all the lock handles changed out. They wondered if i would trade the labor portion for the pick up? I didnt even hesitate. Hell yea! So, i went to look at the RV and the truck. The RV luckily is just a basic white with no body work. Very straight forward 4 day job. The truck is exactly the same as the day i sold it to him. With the exception of added power steering and brakes and new tires. Which was the exact same size and brand i had on it. I'll be getting the truck as soon as the RV is finished in two weeks. Heres a few pictures of the truck as it sits. I will be restoring it. Im going to do a mild upgrade which i think will still fit the HAMBS parameters. Body will be stock. Dash will be stock. Custom door panels, original bench seat will have lumbar support added, and drivetrain will be a 91 5.0HO with AOD Trans. IFS, with a slightly narrowed rear to allow 18" x 10 rear and using 18 x 8" front wheels.
Thank you! I am debating in the 18's. Depends how it looks once lowered. I really like the wheels that are on it now
I saw a 38 ford truck one ton with stock 18 by 5 inch wide wheels with a 10 and 1/2 bolt circle pattern. Welcome form North Alabama.
Just a heads up to help keep you from getting threads deleted, big wheels (Dubs) are not traditional, independent suspension isn't well received ether, best just omit posting about that change. Not trying to tell you what to do but read the rules and see what others are doing. Welcome to the Hamb. HRP
