This is the attitude that once was the rule on the HAMB. It's refreshing to see the smart ass, but still right on, response to this kind of thread. Good on ya, Brahm. ...Once upon a time there was a class in drag racing called Gas. It had letter designations to indicate displacement. The class allowed for certain modifications regarding engine setback and crank center difference from stock and had some safety requirements too. The gas classes were VERY close and competitive. Back in the heyday of drag racing, the gas and Super Stock classes were more popular than even the top fuel cars. This era is sort of sacred to a lot of us who were there. It is not really hard to get the concept right. Pick a year, get an old rule book and make the car conform. If you can't do that, you should pick some other name to call that kind of car. Seriously, it's not a hard concept, a gasser is car that fits the rule book for the gas class. It was one of the most hard fought racing classes ever. It deserves respect. And, kid? Your '56 ain't far off in looks, make it right. Then blast it down the local track that's a whole day's drive for you. bet your face will hurt from grinning after you do it.
as far as i can see the car is a gasser minus - the straight axle but back than they werent all straight axle cars. this car is no insult to what was but is a tribute in my eyes. car has a small block with a tunnel ram stock rear with 456 gears ..everything in and on this car was from the day ...i have many mags that show what was in gasser class cars in the late 50's early 60's and this car has most of them ... still to do is a big block (on its way ) moon tank for front grille roll cage other than that almost everything is whats in the mags i have .
Most gassers didn't have straight axles. Seriously, go to ebay and score a rule book. You're not that far off. Do it right, man.
what to look for under ebay listing...as far as rule book where do i look for it in what section books,or parts or what??
This might help. http://gassermadness.com/Gas_Classes/chart.htm http://gassermadness.com/Gas_Classes/index.htm

Class is based on the times you think it will run in the quarter, most likely if I understand what you wrote correctly (stock SBC, with a tunnel ram and two carbs) it will be in E/Gas, or F/Gas. Unfortunately tunnel rams don't perform well on low compression/stock motors and if your cam/heads don't match the RPM range of the intake (ie shooting for High RPMS 6500-8500 with a tunnel ram), and you don't have a huge stall as well and aren't launching in the higher rpm range. That tunnel ram is going to hurt you more then help. (but a huge stall will make the car rather unstreetable unless you have a lock up converter which is OT for this forum. If I had to guess and I'm not trying to be to much of a dick here, 4000-5000lb car with stock suspension, trans, and a mild motor would put you in the 15-16 second 1/4 mile range, 16's at first until you get really familiar with your shift points and how to launch without spinning tires (if it's an open legger, and has stock gears in the rear). After a few days you should be able to put it into the mid 15's and possibly high 14's .
OK lorodz, cought you say'n this on a differant thread. "thick lil devil isn't she..... just my style...". With that I say name your car BBW . For Bad Blue White
As much as I agree that you shouldn't be fishing on the net for a name for your own car. Here's my suggestion "The Contender" as long as you can back up the name. one that contends; especially : a competitor for a championship or high honor <a heavyweight title contender>
The W block was called a truck motor ... the terms big block and small block werent invented until '66
* update * i got the 4 speed transmission today with the lakewood scatter sheild 11 inch clutch 168 tooth fly wheel.and pressure plate .tomorrow i get the 454 bb looked at the motor today to make shure i really wanted it ..so i removed the manifold .. on the motor there is a edelbrock manifold there is a race damper pully on the crank 850 holley carb. the heads appear to be stock but bye the looks of the cam i doubt it the cam looks real beefy i could see it threw the valley im shure its not a roller so its gotta be hydraulic...theres no rollers in the heads so ...but it all liooks to be good.

You can get them through NAPA dealers for $45 each. Or you could take some lights apart and spray the lens with transparent paint from the hobby store. Than you can pic any color you want.

Come'n along, I take it you have bucket seats. Did you get the block saver plate with the scader shield kuz i see alot of missing bolts there. The bracket with the 3 holes on the left side of the houseing, your ball stud bracket that as a lil z bend in it goes on the bottom 2 holes.
