I’m looking for a solution to a horn problem. My ’56 Fairlane has non-stock power steering, which means the horn wire can’t be routed in the stock Ford manner, through the steering shaft. It would be easy to get the wire inside the column cap but outside the shaft, but the Ford horn mechanism won’t work with that routing. I’ve looked for an aftermarket steering wheel adapter that might solve the problem but have had no luck. Theoretically, replacing the Ford horn ****on mechanism with a GM system should do the trick, but I can’t seem to find any off-t******lf product that will do that either. Any ideas would be welcomed.
I'm working on this now on a friend's 57 using original column with Borgeson steering box. Here's a link to instructions on what I'm doing. Save That Sweet Horn | The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com) I'm not done yet so can't say if it works.
I was going to suggest the Jeep solution but you beat me to it! They do make a wireless horn ****on from several ebay or other companies that are cheap and look like they would be easy to mount but not sure how to use the original horn ring. Just Google wireless horn ****on. Mark
I used the same soloution in the 54. Works perfect even after 3 yrs. Had to locate a br*** tube distributor to obtain the proper inside diameter tubing. Then drill the steering shaft to bring out the horn wire and solder to the br*** tube. Heres a couple pics
