Hi there, we pulled out the transmission of my 56 Lincoln Premiere. On the the transmission is a name plate and it says: FoMoCo, PAW 7003-A, 56-15388. Could someone tell me, if it is the original transmission? I thought it has got only two gears, but when I start in L and shift to D, it shift to the second gear and then to the third. Is that the normal way? One reason we pulled the transmission out, is because the Park position doesn´t work. Before we dissemble the transmission, is it possible to get any parts or repair-kits for it? I read in the "Merc-O-Matic question"-thread, that is easy to fix the PARK-position-problem. Is that right? Thanks for your help.
You have a beefed up Fordomatic, named TURBO DRIVE. It is really a 3 speed automatic that starts normally in 2nd while in drive range. However if you really want to get out of the hole fast, then just floor it while in DR. The transmission will start in 1st (like L) and shift to 2nd, then 3rd. This feature came along about 1955. I seem to remember the Park issues. I think it was fairly simple to fix.
