it kills me that you're still a "junior hamber" when you know 10 times as much as i do about cars! i found myself a '56 window type distributor finally,the mechanical advance looks to me like a 25% unit,is that too much?
Hey YORG.......Naw , i just forget 10 times more LOL, ANYWHO your 53-54-55 dist had 14 degrees in the centrifugal and was all in by 1725 rpm. 1956 window type has 10 degrees all in by1950 rpm=====that is for stock weights and no recurve.Try and set total timing around 30 to 34 degrees vacume unhooked at 2500 rpm. This will give you close to 20 initial---good for better vacume at idle if you got some lumpity lump in your cam and will be responsive. Should start ok. IF knock rears its head ,back down 2 degrees at a time, works for me.
