Is it possible to block off the heat passage under the carb. Gas boils here in Florida and I may change to a Holley carb which has no provision for heat. Where is the best place to block it, small holes under carb or holes in heads? Thank you in advance for helping out, Don

  2. When mine acted up I wired open the flap in the manifold. If I had to block it off, I suppose I'd take the intake off and put a piece of tin or gasket material across the holes for the passage.

I wired the damper for the heat cross over open on my '57 helped quite a bit.
You can put a pheneloc spacer under the carb to isolate it from the crossover heat also.

If you don't block off the exhaust heat by blocking the ports in the cylinder heads, be sure to run a stainless steel plate between the intake and carburetor. Raw exhaust comes out of the two round ports you speak of and, while the cast iron base plate on the stock Rochester could take it, it will warp the piss out of the aluminum base plate of a Holley.

Thanks for the input guys, will block heads and maybe fill the small holes with muffler sealant.
