Wondering if there is any way to adapt a 350 SBC to my existing Stratoflight Hydramatic ******? Thanks for your help!
Most adapters I've seen usually work the other way around - they adapt an early engine to a later transmission. You'll probably have to make what you need to make this work.
If you were to adapt a newer Buick, Olds, Pontiac engine to the stratoflight, it might be simpler, as these engines have BOP bell pattern. The 55-60 Pontiac engines have a weird bell pattern, but the two top bell pattern bolt holes are the same as the BOP, so an adapter that would take the stratoflight front bell housing to a BOP is fairly easy. and the newer engines have the starter mounted to the engine, thereby not needing starter mounting holes in the adapter plate. I am in the process of doing such an adapter, and I will be using one flexplate, and one hydramatic flywheel. In between will be a spacer that will pick up the flywheel from the crank. The adapter plate will be somewhere in the 1" thick area. I did have one other idea. If you could find a slant pan dual range hydramatic from a 55 Pontiac, then you can use a Chevy truck bell housing and torus ***emblies and it will bolt to a 350 SBC. The only obstacles I can see is the mounts and driveshaft. Of course there will be no Park position, but you always have R (park is there on the old hydramatics.) PM me if you need more info.
