Anyone done this on a '56 Fairlane? If so, what '70s - '80s donor is needed? Prefer it to be a Ford donor with a 289 or 302.
because the original front suspension works and drives well, because you don't have to chop your frame in half, and because the donor clip likely will have more miles on it than the original car. Plus it's a shit load of work.
Most of the 70-80's cars that have a frame are bigger and wider than the 56. But the brakes (spindles and such) of a select few will fit on your A-arms, so just do a brake swap. Or buy it all new from the catalogs. Either way, its better than cutting the frame. On this type of car, at least.
Cuz there is no reason to. You are going to cut apart a frame and essentially replace it with the same frame with balljoints, IFS, etc as what you cut out, but just have a ton of labor into it. Discs and power rack and pinion are easy cheap bolt ons for a 56 frame.
