Hey fellas , anyone ever got a Cardone 30-2808 dizzy from auto zone and find out the cap hold down clamps are too short for the cap…… now what??? Thanks in advance
Is that for a y-block? Cardone has had a history of using 289/302 distributor bodies and converting them to Y-block units that kinda work sometime. I looked at pictures of that part number on line and it showed a distributor body with an o-ring around the portion that fits into the block, a sure sign it is a small block 289/302 type unit. A 57 up cap should fit this unit, 56 and older no fit. Also, a y-block unit will have a shaft that measures 6 inches from the end of the shaft to the block mounting surface with a y-block specific gear. (13 tooth ?) Some of the shafts were only 5 3/4 inches long and barely engaged the oil pump drive shaft. Sorry for the rambling on but have been burned by this. Here is a link with some information, I will add more if I can find it. http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/Topic144820.aspx another post with more information http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/Topic133762.aspx
I got lucky and got a 64’ casting, fits perfect. Only issue is the cap hold down clips are too short. I’ll keep trying thanks for the info
The one I got is an actual 64 ford yblock casting. It got sent out with 302 cap hold down clips. The base on a yblock dizzy is wider than a winsor. Cardone was no help from there tech number…
Normally yes. I suspect they swapped the hold down clips from something else when they built (rebuilt) it. They are easy to change, held on with a couple cotter pin type rivets. A 289/302 cap will fit a 57 and newer y-block distributor normally so not sure what they did.
