What color are you going to paint the body?

Know what I like about your build (besides the MG windshield and Imperial headlights)? You're not just piling parts up differently every day and taking pics, you're BUILDING A CAR. ;) You listen to what people say, but you've got your own ideas and vision and are making it happen.

    It's too cool.

Still not sure on color, havent even narrowed it down to a few choices. Once the chassis is complete (minus paint) and is running I will put the body back on it and drive out into a real open area and start contemplating color choices then. I cant make that kind of decision standing 5 or 10 feet away from it.

On the windshield frame, my bad on it being a MGB frame, it is actually a MG Midget frame, also used on Sprities. I discovered that when ordering the rubber for it where it meets the cowl. Also, want to say thanks everybody for all the input, sure glad I got those Imperial lights too! Even though I dont comment on all the suggestions given I do read them all and give them consideration.

Hopefully, after 2 parts orders and 1 trip to the local parts house I actually have everything now to completely plumb the brake system this weekend. The local chain store parts house actually researched the front rubber hoses for me and got the me the correct length off the shelf in about 10 minutes time. Some days things just go in your favor.

Racerdad, right now you are in the stage where progress takes time and the photo's look the same unless a person viewing them is into details. I'm looking forward to being far enough along to be painting a finished chassis!
What you've done looks great. Good luck on the plumbing, is electrical next on your list?
Do you intend to do your own interior also? Will you do the final bodywork/paint?

Can't wait to see it on the road! Ha

  10. I love this project! I haven't added much insight, because I really haven't had much original to add. But I've gotta chime in on color choice.........when I was a kid building models and painting my bicycle every other week or so, there was a color called Lime Fire Metalflake, or something close to that. In my head, I always think of it as 'Electric Margarita". I realize it would be pretty radical and would be a bold choice, but in my head, it's Bitchin'! Keep up the amazing work. This is my favorite build, Period! :D

Hope you will round off the upper corners of the windshield frame as much as possible, and maybe disguise the lower corners somewhat, blend them into the cowl. Less of a "set-on" appearance, make it look like it was made to fit there.

  13. WHHAAAAaa?! Sweet dude, caught me out of left field that you were going that way. That will make a sweet space age rod!

  14. Blast off! Lookin' good.
I like seeing this brave approach - the '57 Mopar approach is a natural. The cowl & the Imperial headlights are very good; it's gonna be an outtasight rod.

P.s. This Chevy variant I scrawled in '99 ( last millenium!)

  15. Just ran across this thread yesterday; had two dozen pages to read through...

    Subscribed.

Waiting to see how that grille and surrounding sheetmetal comes out. Right now, it looks just like (in my mind's eye) a bent piece of flat sheet - no compound curves. Which might be tough to make congruent with the style of the body tub.

But, I've got a feeling that as I check back, it's going to come together in a way that I didn't anticipate, and think looks great. Kinda' like the windshield.

    Keep up the good work!

Interesting. I see it in Lime/gold candy as well, but heavy metallic, not flaked. That's just me tho...;)

What a project! I just came across this thread & read it all the way through. Can't wait to see the finished project. Like many others I was unsure about the sbc but the headers and intake make it work with the theme of the car.
One other thing, the input and support from fellow Hambers are what this site is all about. I was impressed with all the good ideas suggested, the rendering by James D and the level of support for going "outside the box". I hope to see this car in a magazine, it surely deserves it. Ed Roth would say "Hell yeah!"

Rob, I gotta agree, pink and yellow just doesn't cut it. Like your shirt though.:D

At the same time, a hemi just looks right in there.

I'm not sure how these are held in place, but if you could put some of amber bulbs or LED's behind yours so that light filled 3 or 4 tubes, it would make really cool turn signals. Especially if they were sequential.

By the way, I really like your car!

I've been following this post & I love the car so far, but I think that with the Fins & the tilted back MG windshield. The grill should be tilted back also. That would just look right.
Either way the car is awesome!

Well its been a long time since an update. Long enough I just kinda wanted to let those who have been following this build know it aint dead, its just on hold for a bit. Going through one of those Domestic issues, if you know what I mean. Its getting drawn out longer that necessary and I dont want to buy any parts or increase her attorneys perceived value this thing might have. Texas is a community property state so I will have to buy her out of her legal half ownership of this. Been spending extra time with the kids for sure right now and work is keeping me busy too. Just one one those storms of life that I am waiting for to pass so I can get back to work on it. Not asking for any sympathy just really enjoy sharing back and forth with you guys on this project and didnt want anybody to unsubscribe from this thread or think I bailed on it. Anyway, thats it for now, gotta get back to work! :D

Ouch. Sorry to hear that, keep after it, I'll be waiting for updates when you get out of the storm.
