Projects 57 Belvedere 4 Door Gone Mad

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Racrdad, Sep 16, 2009.

  1. To pull that off he will have to run a stretched front end/nose from the radiator forward. Kinda like the nose on KIRK's Legion special...... stretched like that, but with the Edsel grill frenched in.

Thanks Rob, I like it too. I imagine if the grill shell was made deep enough with a slight flare a radiator could be put in it. Glassguys post gives it some perspective. I've seen some pretty cool custom built radiators and with Racerdads fabrication skills this shouldn't be a big problem. Any of you radiator guys have any input? Eli

I'm no Santa, I wish! The wheel belongs to Racrdad, he was nice enough to let me use it and now its going home, and for a really good cause. I am so pumped about this new grill idea, if anyone can figure out a way to make it work, it's Doug!

Ok, throw some opinions at me. Nerf bar on the rear or no nerf bar? It would have to be chrome thats for sure.

Nerf bar ONLY if you run horizontal headlights... And even then it's just a maybe.
Just thinking it would tie the front and rear together a little better if it was done that way,,, but overall I'm digging the smooth pan look. So if I only got one vote, I say no nerf

It kinda looks like its gasping... :D I believe you mentioned changing the rear lights? Maybe if you mocked them up it might be easier to get an idea. Not getting a warm & fuzzy on this one though. I wonder how '59 Chevy tail lights would look.
If you are going to change the lights and have the new ones, post picture & I'll photoshop them in. Lots less work than cutting and trimming. Eli

    Racrdad,
Can you put up a side by side of the rear with and without nerf bar?
It kinda dawned on me that your gonna have to have some thing [or place] back there to hang the license plate. I'm still not feeling the nerf, but I'm brain-storming on what might work... A recess maybe? Trimed out? Maybe even some back-up lights???

Hey, never said my ideas were any good :D

Here are the '59 Chevy tail lights I mentioned. I don't really know if this will actually work because the Chevy light might be too long, but its an idea. It seems to work with the nerf bar too.

I had a set of 59 taillights, picked them up at a swap meet, was thinking the same thing. They are actually too big to fit in the available space.

Hanging the license plate was what drove me to photoshop a nerf bar on it. I dont care for it much myself but wanted some opinions. If I recese the plate into the pan it will be really deep or at a severe angle. The pan tucks up under the car quite a bit.

Side by side, I think it definately looks better without it. Glad I didnt actually build one! :D

Well I have to start packing up my shop this weekend, finally got the house sold and have to move in a couple of weeks. Havent been able to find another house with a shop I can afford so I guess I will be working out of a 2 car garage again soon. Thats ok though, I built a lot of stuff in my garage at my previous house. I probably will actually get more work done since it will be one step out the door instead of 150 foot behind the house like my shop is now. Wont be any progress for probably a month, I will be more than ready for some garage time after that long!

These are probably way too big but sectioned to fit these would be pretty cool on that rolled pan. License mount is far too large.

    Those bumperettes may work...

  25. The way I see it, it means a fender/ apron deal on the car's front, which is lotsa work scrounging, or a big english wheel challenge. I see those as l-o-n-g front fenders.
Maybe something shorter? Perhaps better to stay highboy.

Spoggie, Here's what an angle shot could look like. I tried with the grill straight up and leaned forward but this looked the best.

  27. I love this car. Way to go man.

  28. That could look cool, definetely wouldn't lay grille back at a rake greater than the trailing edge of the fins though. Too much rake on grille may give a 'broken back' look.
Looks like a car to cruise in. Guess you gotta decide how far to go with it. I'd be tempted to keep the front pretty simple, highboy with strong, well mounted, highly stylised cycle guards and get it on the road!

    Not as cool :(

    Agree :)

Doug, you are a radical, maniac, out-of-the-box, ADD-inspired car guy !!
Fantastic build, really shines a bright light for all stuck-in-the-middle dads with visions of doing something with an old car. Enjoying the ride.

Those front fenders nose clip looks aquard without running boards. I vote for open wheels. I like the 57s original taillights. But The cats eyes look good but kinda has an odd shaped curve to it. Kinda clashes with the straight lines of the fins. Mabe try some late 60s mopar c body. There long and square. 69 Polara has a neat shape that may work well.
