My mom was cleaning out here attic recently and found some of my car toys from when I was a kid. I'd forgotten about this thing, but it was one of my favorites. It's a bit 80's pro street, but still pretty cool! Flick the skull back one click and it idles, goose the stick and it revs, pop the stick again and it revs up, pulls the wheels and drags down the hardwood 20. I cleaned it up and popped some double A's in it and it still runs great...rear tires have flat spots from sitting, but it still boogies! And as a separate point of interest, I noticed on the bottom it says "Made in China"...which I found funny since a lot of folks seem to think "Made in China" is a fairly recent phenomenon. This thing is 23 years old. Anyhow, good fun. Any of you guys have one of these?

Yep, I had one. It had a motorized wheel inside that would touch a megaphone, sounded just like a V8.

If I remember correctly, it also had a smoke maker. You put Vaseline on it and it would come out of the pipes.

Oh man, I don't remember it making smoke. That kind of knowledge is gonna make the rest of the work day drag! And yeah, the idle is pretty sweet!

I can't wait to buy stuff like this for my boy. He's only 11 months now...but he has some toy cars he runs along the floor. Hell, I bought him the Little Tykes Engine Workshop when he was two months old...it's in the attic waiting for his second birthday.

My son had one of those, I think it`s in the attic. I think I`ll see if it isn`t totaled. He`s 26 now.It made some cool engine sounds..I played with it as much as he did.

Gotta ask......Am I the only one who opened this thinking how the hell did someone have a 57 in their attic? Thought it was going to become the new barn find trend.

BTW- I remember these pretty well but my faves were the dragter toys that shook and smoked before taking off and even popped the chute.

kids these days! they want everything done for them, can't do anything themselves.

when I was a kid in the 60's we had to make our own engine noises, and if we wanted our toy cars to fly down the sidewalk we had to push them.

..."plastic Made in China toy car found at parent's house" just didn't have quite the same ring!

Nah, kids "these days" play with digital cars on a 3" hand held LCD screen! If it makes ya feel better my ma probably has some of my old Tonka trucks hidden up there too - the real steel ones with the wingnuts holding the wheels on so you could swap 'em.

Ahhh...."Tonka". The good old days of lead paint and jagged metal. Never heard of tetnus shots till junior high but sure got enough iodine dumped on me to kill anything.

Kinda noticed we haven't evolved too far. We all still giggle at engine noises and play with rusty jagged metal.

I've got a 57 just like that one:D! It's a Matchbox toy (believe it or not). I might even have the box for it around here somewhere.

Here's a toy I got as a kid, and still have. Doesn't run though, it's missing a half shaft, the functional differential just spins.:(
