Ran across this the other day. It's for sale, but won't say exactly what it will take so far. (I hate that) It's all there except for the intake and radiator. Some rust in the floor pans and does have a title. I like seeing them like this! One of the guys that was there said he turned down $12K for it. The $35,000 was written in the dust to scare away other potential buyers.
I'm not a huge tri five guy but a 57 ragtop would be sweet...so many of the tri five chevys here are leftovers from the 90's with ugly wheels, ugly interiors and messed up graphics on them...finding one like this without some 90's motif is a true score...good luck...hope ya get it at a decent price
If it's as solid as it looks, the price ain't too far off.... Seriously, from the looks of things, anything less than $15-17G is a steal....Check floorpans and body supports. All are available, but work to put in.
I say that's a 20K car all day the way it sits. 2 or 3 years ago it may have actually brought the $35K on the windshield. A done one is still a 60K car and this one would be a pretty straight forward resto. I would love to have that car. Just put it back together, make it driveable and detail it. Extremely rare to find one that isn't either a 100 point restoration or a complete basket case upside down in a creek bed. I've seen some that look like they'd been outside for 30 years or had been in a damp basement for just as long and they would still bring $13K. To a lot of people, a '57 Chevy convertible is the ultimate old car.
That looks better than the one on my local craigslist for $28,500 . A guy that lives near me recently sold a tropical turq. one like that all done up real nice for $85,000 . Not fuel injection or anything super special , but fresh frame off . I think that car is $20-$25K for sure .
I like cars in that conditon too. Ha pretty good technique for warding off other buyers, ill remember that.
I'm not a big tri-5 fan either but If I was seriously looking for one to restore back to showroom stock that would be a prime candidate. I still shake every time I remember that my stepfather told my mother not to let me buy a 57 ragtop in 1966 for 350.00 Because it had "been hotrodded all over town". That car was siera gold with a cream top and matching interior.
i'd say it's more of a 28k-35k car... it would bring that to the right person easily... those cars dont change hands everyday,,,so a "20K all day" price is more like what people like 'US' would pay for it ALL DAY,,,,, but if you could get it for 22k or less,,i would jump on it. but thats just my opinion...
Pretty much my exact thought's as well.. I've heard of basket cases ( and i mean body in two piece's kind of basket) that sold in the 15-18 range.. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see that car's price in the high 20's or higher, and get it.
I would give my left and right nut, left leg and my cat for that car. With that being said, I would say between 18-24K...
Heres one we finished 2 years ago, we tried not to over restore it. Went with the black top to set off the tire/wheel combo and the Matador red. It was about the same condition as the above Vert. I would say 20k-25k would be a fare price but others would pay more. Always wanted a black on black on black '57 vert!
does anybody know what those REPO 57 vert bodys sell for???? i had someone tell me like 15K...but i thought that was bullshit as the new camaro hulls are seling for that,,,,
The judged, show restored cars still trade in the 100K range, but I think the market has softened on these a bit. Check out this really clean original convert that just sold for 45K http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1957...oryZ6160QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem That's why I don't see the posted example bringing the 35K. But 3 or 4 years ago, yeah, it probably would have. It also depends on what options it has, how bad the floor pan rust is, and how correct the parts are. If the engine is numbers matching and if it has all of it's date coded correct stuff will make a big difference in price. If I was in the market for this car, I'd offer $20K, at that price you can't lose.
Once you buy a repro body of any kind and than buy all the trinkets to make it look like what it's supposed to be you might as well payed another 5-10kz and bought an original, unless of course you are spreading out the payments little by little till done. JMO............
If you want a 57' Chevrolet Convertible, you'd better buy it, you'll NEVER get one that cheap again! What the other guy said about body parts (his testicles), I'll throw in my spine. I'll bet the floor boards, as rusty as they probably are, are'nt anywhere near what my spine looks like. Butch/56sedandelivery.
That would look good if you just put a little shine on the paint that's on it. Get it mechanically sound and drive the wheels off it untill someone offers you stupid money for it.... Jeff
Pic #2 sure looks good as far as lack of rust. Even the lower firewall and door posts look great. I'd have to say that's an easy 30k as is ...and slap the nose back on and make it yard drivable and it's 35k easy, even with the doom & gloom reports every day.
I was kinda wondering if this was the same car. Could be, although this one has assembled front sheetmetal and the trim is off of it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...m=190272194849&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=009 Went for right about what I figured this other one would.
Not the same car looking at the details (like the color of the dash among a ton of other things...) However, a good representative of what a builder tri-five convertible goes for (winning bid on the ebay car was $23,500.00)
i AM a big tri-five fan. that car is worth $25K easy. probably more. if it's a fuel injected car or a power pac car, and depending on options, it could be worth much more.
