I've seen pics of 57's with the 2 1/4" white walls, but does anyone have pics of one with 4" wide whites? I've seen them on caddys but i'm wondering how they'll look on my new toy
I'm afraid I have no photographs as you requested, but your question does bring to mind an incident from a show earlier this year. Beyond doubt one of the finest cars there was a metallic navy blue roadster done in what I would cl*** as almost period perfect early 60s style with a stunning white tuck and roll interior and a beautifully dressed 327. It was standing on polished five spoke radirs and Gangster style 4 inch whitewall Firestone's which completely and utterly ruined the effect. I'm a firm believer that hot rods and customs should always be forward-looking, i.e. never put on anything from a period earlier than when your car was designed, and by the time your 57 came out 4 inch whites had been consigned to history. Of course, this is purely my opinion and doesn't mean diddly squat unless you want it to. Best of luck with whichever way you decide to go. Paul
Don't do it. It's gonna look like the cartoon taxi cab from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Trust me. The biggest you should go on a '57 is 2&3/4" at the most. I got a deal on some NOS Allstate G-78 14's with a 3&3/4" whitewall. I'm runnin them on my 55.1 truck and I can't wait to wear them out so I can justify new tires....with a smaller whitewall! Bigger definitely isn't always better.
