Was wondering if anyone has a helpful tip on removing a spark plug in a 1957 Chrysler New Yorker, 392 Hemi. The 3rd plug, driver's side is obstructed by the brake booster and I can't get a socket extender into that deep Hemi plug sleeve. I can't imagine having to dismantle the brake booster, lines etc then bleeding the brakes just to get to a spark plug. Maybe in a late model car....there's got to be a work around. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.
You might want to make a special tool by cutting down an extension and welding it to a plug socket. If there was room for the plug wire cover then there is about two inches of room to work in.
You should be able to loosen the booster hold down bolts and bend it out of the way without touching the brake lines. Or do as aage says and make a special tool.
that's why they make swivel style plug sockets. add the proper length extension and it falls right in. 3/8" drive is best.
I've loosened up the bolts before, but the mix of the right extension and swivels is usually sufficient. The super stock dodges with the big hemi's had rubber brake lines off the m/c for this reason - loosen the bolts and shove it out of the way.
