Can anyone tell me anything about this car?? My buddy is buying it and I'm doing the work on it. We would love to have some history behind it if at all possibly. We know it was a drag racer by the BM\SP on it, plus the rear push bar and welded on ladder bars. It is located in the Sacramento area. If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know. Thank you all for your help, Mike

They made 6339 Corvettes in 57. If car has ***le, it is worth saving. Shiny parts that are missing will cost a bit.

Forget the shiny parts, restore it as a g***er/drag car.

I just bought a 57 Corvette that the previous owner was making into a g***er. I also have all the original parts but g***er is what it will be when I'm done.
Don't worry about finding parts, they are out there.
Contact me if I can be of any help.

Can you get some more pictures?

Ya, I know. My buddy got lucky on this one for sure. I guess there are a ton of parts that come with it. What ever direction he may go with the car, one thing for sure, paint and body are going to remain untouched.

It may help if there was a whole picture of the car. Truth be told there were quite a few 56/57 Vettes running in modified sports. A BM/SP would more than likely have a big block (probably a BBC) if it ran in the 66/67 era. Also since it is carrying BM/SP on the car 1967 may have been its last year in NHRA compe***ion. BM/SP was done away with for 1968 and these early Vettes were moved in the gas cl***es. Most of the BM/SP ran B/G in 68 and on and then the CM/SP and DM/SP (everyone of the C and D racers I have run across were small block Chevies) were bumped into C/G and D/G.

If it ran earlier that let's say 1965 I suppose it is possible that it ran a small block with some modifications. Some of the cars in this area ran both W motors and Pontiacs, so nothing is set in stone in the drivetrain. The mounts and modifications may help you figure it out if the history is really lacking.

Finding an original BM/SP is a rare event. Hopefully you will find some of it's history.-Jim

We were go to leave the bushes on the car hoping to give it a little bit of that "Jungle Jim" flavor, but the seller was asking to much extra $$$ for them. Sadly, all the vegetation will be left behind. I would like to thank all of you that have submitted information in regards to the car. As I get more pics and info, I'll post them in hopes some one out there might be able to give us a bit of history behind it.

More than likely, the VIN number isn't going to show up on the Solid Axle Registry but it couldn't hurt to look. When you have some good pics of it, post them. I've got a few friends who keep their drag race cars out at Infineon and frequently race at Sacramento and maybe one of them might recognize your 57.

Well, here are some pics of the Corvette. I see big and little Cragar SS on it, raise the nose a bit, leave the body as is, and an old school 396 with a tunnel ram, big cam, and some M\T valve covers.

Looks in pretty remarkable condition considering where you found it. Any evidence of the roll bar?

When you get a moment post a few pictures of the engine bay. I am ***uming the engine is missing. Kind of curious as to the mounting of the engine which may help figure out what engine they were running. Also did they modify the trans mount bolt holes etc? Does it have an Olds/Pontiac rear?

The shape of the roll bar may help ID the car as well (if the bar was cut off crudely you can still see the locations).

Cool car. There were a bunch of these 56/57s converted to drag cars. They were not collector cars for the most part back in the 60s. Way too many have been converted back to stock which from a heritage standpoint is a real shame. -Jim

  28. Restored it would be a B modified sports car, although it would have run legally on gas it would not have been what is commonly recognized as a "G***er".

That blows me away. Someone lets a vette and a jag sit outside and rot. If you don't give a **** about the cars wouldn't you want the $ ? If I had a valuable work of art I didn't care about I wouldn't toss it out behind the chicken coupe, I would sell it!

Cool yellow car. It is crazy to think about cars like that abandoned in the dirt...

Interesting to find this thread this morning. I just located some old photos of Bob Kamp and family (local owner of famed K-Motion) and his original old 56/57 vette racer from back in the day.

I understand he bought this new, saved all the parts, eventually returned it to stock and made money selling it back off later.
