Hot Rods 57 FORD Build #2... Glutton for Punishment.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jeff Norwell, Oct 20, 2021.

  1. @Jeff Norwell i saw you said something about a 1961 ford wiper motor, and i managed to score one for 10 bucks, switch included. how did you set up your reversing linkage? as this wiper motor only turns one direction. or i can make a switch that reverses the polarity every turn... maybe. 20230302_175808.jpg

The 60 wiper motor that will work in a 57 is from the full sized p***enger car. It is mounted under the dash. Be aware, many 60 Ford p***enger cars had vacuum motors, also under the dash.

It mounts to the stock 57 plate, uses the stock wiper control, just need to run 12V to it. The holes in the wiper mount need to be bushed down to allow proper alignment (keep it from shifting) or the mounting holes drilled and tapped to fit the larges screw.

    Sorry guys..I missed this......
I used a 1960 2 speed Ford wiper..... Running the part numbers... it came off a 60 Hi-Po car.. they had no vacuum ports for the wipers... it was a direct bolt on.... As Bill mentioned @Ford blue blood

So.... a long needed needed update....
All the wiring is finished and no fire Dept. was called or needed.
All circuits work and tested all the functions... lights hi-beams, turn signals, flashers, horn, ,etc, etc .
Engine cranks nicely and I am super close to getting her to fire.

My short list is getting very short..... exhaust, bleed the brakes and a small repair on the back tailpan.
(hence... not firing the car.... Too close to the tank.)
Had a slight fitment issue with deck lid.... it had a sight warp.... so. out came the 1 foot 6x6 and we jumped on it like a pro midget wrestling event.
    Fits perfect and shuts lovely.

And now gathering all my rubber seals and such..... got my interior guy coming to help install the headliner and the welting(wind lace)
Also getting all my gl*** and stainless together .. which will go in after the headliner.Expecting the seats to comeback as well..... so,.. things are looking peachy.

Had an issue(my fault) with eh steering column.. what was sitting too deep on the steering shaft and left a 1/2 inch gap at the wheel end.... it was jus a matter of unloosening everything and adjusting.... now its sits at 3/16 .. tight and right.

So the lonesome Texan is actually in the short run.
    I am happy.

Steering column wheel before and after....

    Stainless stuff(still gathering)

    IMG_4823.jpeg

Come to think of it.... The only thing not wired is the dome light,.. for some reason I had 2 spare 59 dome lights(no idea why).. and they won't fit.... so my southern West Texas connection rescued me.... along with other stuff I need.(real small but important stuff.

But.... THE REAL Big news is the other car.. The DIRTY BIRD is coming home.... finally from the paint shop......
I received news a week ago when it was shot in a primer.... so.... I have been on cloud nine......
If...... and only if..... I can get it together(interior, gl*** and trim...) in time for the North East Vintage Drags in Maine on or around the Memorial Day weekend...... I will have my *** in this to go there.
We have 12 members going and 4 racing..... promises to be a great event... and it nots like Halloween where ya gotta dress up. hahahahah

Anyhow..... spy shots form my pal Tom the painter...(in primer after all the hard work has been done)

  13. darn, gotta sell what i have and buy a '57 chev motor then. even if its just a single speed i'll be happy with wipers no matter what.

  14. wow, i feel like its close enough to the road you could drive it as is, granted you had a bucket on the floor :D.

im amazed at how you work so quickly. you got your car after i did and im still far from the standpoint you are.

granted, you have years of skill that i dont. i hope to fix a car as fast as you can someday; maybe even actually doing it the right way without rust holes in it.

Jeff.....that pile of windshield trim corner pieces...........pick the best two that still have the two tabs on the back and get those tabs por-15'd to keep them from rusting away as most of them already have. Nice progress, Jeff.... I think you're gonna end up favoring that painted shiney one.

No one repros those trim corners..... Ugh.
and yes.. when done I will POR-15 the heck outta them.

The '59 has about 1/10th of the pile of stainless on your '57. It will look minty when all is said and done.
