    Hi Jeff-
Is part of the problem the fact that the old clutch fork pivot is still in the bellhousing and won't let the line stay back away from the rotating pressure plate? Beautiful work by the way...love the cars!

chicken... you're 100% correct..... The fork pivot bracket in the Bell has a notch top and bottom to hold and let the original fork to swing..... if I would drill a small hole below and above the notches.. and secure the feed and bleed lines to that.. they will be away from the rotating mass.
    Just wasn't thinking.

And thank you for the kind words!

    Jeff,

I (and thousands of others on here) seldom post comments about your Ford build. That said, however, we all look every time you post up something. Love the car and the work that has gone into it.

    That looks fab!

Did you run the heater hose from the intake straight back over the top of the intake or sideways and then down the inner fender?

The Latter Tim..... sideways and away from the engine as much as possible.. running along the inner fender to the the firewall heater location.
    Thanks Man!

  8. As I age, I'm aware that the only way to quit learning or making mistakes is to quit, period. I'm pretty sure the young people that hear some of my stories think I'm an idiot. I'm ok with that. Everytime we do something there is room for something different in outcome. I don't care if you did it 10 times before. We can't depend on parts or engineering to be the same. Of course, we know we didn't change. LOL.

So.... as the never ending story continues..... 40 pages....
I fixed the throw out bearing issue... completely and utterly my fault.
When I installed a few years back(or was it last year?)... I had the lines on the wrong side.... leaving them to "bend "out towards the rotating mass(pressure plate assembly)....
I received my replacement line, installed with the help of my good friend Terry.....
took the needed measurements from the bell attached to the engine....
Back to the trans and bearing.. set up the needed space...... and assembled the throwout bearing to exit out the fork window.... clean and tight..... being a paranoid person..... I made sure and made small brackets to firmly keep the top line(bleed line) very close to the back wall of the Bell.
I also.. in the initial install.... ran the bleed line at the bottom.Another dumb Newbie mistake.Needs to be the Top Line.

Lessons learned....all is ready for assembly.
As I mentioned before.. the warmed over 352 is Out..... and a nicely built bigger cube FE is installed...
Dyno read outs put it around 425-430 hp.
This will give me the street grunt I desire.

I will keep the 352 as a spare.... as there is nothing wrong with it.
Just waiting to get some free time to install the engine and get it hooked back tot he toploader....Then fire it.
Back to the throw out bearing...I need to make a peddle stop against the clutch pedal arm.
already got it figured.. just need to find the time.....
Move forward.... or die trying...... ha ha

I have an incredibly stupid question... Why not use the factory mechanical clutch linkage? you know, the ultra reliable kind.....

'specially since hydraulics are just a leak waiting to happen, IMHO...

    Not stupid at all Mark.
I simply don't have another 57-58 factory linkage set up..... and the Tilton was brand new,.. and the most important aspect...... Free.

Respectively.....I completely disagree....... I was the reason it failed in the first place..... I have run several cars with this system and never had a failure.....

Respectively.... I completely disagree.... your experience with hydraulics is obviously different than mine.

50 years of working on mechanical stuff and hydraulics were always one of the biggest head-aches, regardless of what it was on. There's no way I would use one of these set-ups near a clutch, but that's just my way of doing things.

And this was in no way intended to be a knock on you or the car... you're doing a great job with it!

  17. Thanks for the inspiration on an entirely different issue, the engine swap in my 40.
It seems to bite my butt, at every turn, on things that should be simple.

What would Jeff do? Keep Calm And Carry On.

As many of those FE bellhousing and parts as I have seen and kicked around the garage floor , it is tough to think we are growing so old the parts are getting near used up .

  20. About 6 years ago, I took a 58 Ford apart that had a 3 speed od in it. I saved the bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, pedal assembly which included the strange power brake booster for years. I tried to sell it on various forums and places and struck out. I suffer from lack of space. A few years ago, it all went to the dump. I might have been able to help somebody but with the rising costs of shipping, I didn't think anybody would want it. That 58 came with a 332 4 barrel engine, the 3 speed and 4:11 gears. It should have been fun to drive when new. The guy I bought it from was a friend of my brothers. He never acted like it was special. :)

Could always put a C6 in it and make it boring……like mine. :(

  22. My concern is the braided lines chafing against the fork opening, I'd like to see those padded or restrained to ward off taking it all apart too soon.

Seriously, this is a really cool build. If it were easy, everyone would have a bitchin' '57 Ford.

Might be dumb, but I love the way the fuel line curves around the distributor. It's something like that that shows that despite the patina'd exterior, a lot of time and attention has been paid to the underpinnings.

    Bravo @Jeff Norwell !
That is amazing progress oh noble artistic/road warrior/purveyor of vintage (67 year old) Ford tin!
It's cool enough to have one KICK ASS 57 Ford, but to have two of those KICK ASS rides, is simply the icing on the cake!
Such a bummer about the HOT tooth, professional dental care, is indeed a necessity, and requires immediate attention !
    Your results may vary.

Good luck on firing up the engine this weekend.
    Thanks from Dennis.
