Reason I mention it is when I bought my 57 it had all brand new rubber, but in boxes. After installing it the trunk closed pretty good, but the doors were awful. Both of them were way too tight, almost binding, and needed a very firm effort to close them. When new these cars were new they certainly didn’t need a break in period for closing doors, they closed right from the get go.

Thanks Jeff I’m going to try those seals in the front of mine as they’ve disintegrated.

    I completely understand and agree.
I have heard of some guys breaking glass because they have slammed their doors so hard to shut.
Most have to go to the door striker and move it back a 1/4 to 1/2 inch to get the door to actually engage and shut.
No Thanks. Not on a painted finished car.... that would be a heartbreaker for me personally.
I looked for a part number, but I tossed the packaging already.Honestly, just do a search on Amazon... and choose the size and OD that would work best in your application.... Most are less than $20 bucks .
And if you don't like it.. very easy to remove and no mess.

    So Gary.....
about 7 years ago,.I bought 200 57 ford interior door panels from a guy ... it was $200.
How could I go wrong right?
Well... they were all still packaged in OG Ford flat boxes....
When I got home..... 90% were for 4 doors!!!!! that old bastard got me.
But there were about 20 2 door custom door panels.... all LEFT side.
    Ugh....
Anyhow....I have used the door panels...,ripped of the material and used the stock card/masonite/ what ever material Ford used back then....
My interior guy gave me a good size coffee container of this adhesive cement he uses in glueing his work together... I swear to god its a 2 part rubber cement..... so.....

I would look locally for an art store that sells commercial art supplies or a professional craft store for a 2 part adhesive,.. with the rubber cement thinner to clean up with.(or simply get some from a local upholstery shop.)

The door panel stuff(vinyl) I used was given to me by a local guy that built a 55 chevy gasser. Rolls of black vinyl .... so I have used that....
I may get very lazy and use one of the OEM door panels I have and carry on on this car... hahahaha.

In your killer build..I would use ABS panels..... they won't get damaged if they get a little wet in wet weather..... My Build and yours are very different(yours is not junk!!!)

  6. I'm also interested in a part number. I still have one side to do on my Ford, but the 1st one went okay. It pretty much settled down and the door closed easily enough and sealed well.

I'm going to steal your door card idea. How smooth does the cardboard surface have to be? Did you use a padding under it?

No padding used.. because that vinyl I used has a very small foam attached to the back.... like a 1/16 thick.... but Your surface of card or ABS should be clean and smooth.
Hell yea!.. steal away..... Ideas and info are a good thing.

As I mentioned about the door seals.. just search on Amazon.. you will get a ton of different stuff in diameters and thickness for less than 20 bucks......
and as I mentioned.. if it nots to your satisfaction.... peel it off and and your good! Better that trying to remove OEM style and that nasty glue adhesive.... thats stuff is just rude.

  9. Thanks, Jeff!:)

All your cars follow thoughtful consistent themes throughout the build. I think that's what separates cool cars from the quickie uninspired catalog builds.

Well... I think we are gonna call this..done.
I finally got the glass installed.a factory green......
    My mission has been completed.
I brought a dead Hulk back to life using mostly old Ford parts. It's no chopped n channeled 32 Tangerine Dream....but I am pretty darn pleased how it evolved and turned out.
sorry,... no vids, or dramatic highway action.I just needed to get it finished....(if thats even a term.they never are finished)
Had some great help putting this(both 57's) together.. very special friends.
Pretty sure there will be fix ups and adjustments... but thats just the hobby we live in.
I had to wrap this up fast as we are moving..everything is going into storage... so I can build a shop....
so both 57's are being put away for at least until next summer....
    so yea...
I am just Happy I got this old Ford up and running on the street again after 53 years of languishing at the hands of abuse and time.

    so...
    THE END.

Naaaa- Jeff and I rid that shiny paint point in life pretty much at the same time.
Now it's more drive it and go see buddies and enjoy time sitting and reminiscing with a cold beverage.
Lookin' good brother Mod, works for me.
    Rinse off and go.....

I really enjoyed the rebuild and it reminded me of the fact there are a lot of good cars from the fifties! I remember a very long time ago and always wanted one and this one is my kind of perfect!
    Enjoy

Having just moved myself, the idea of a shop (and a few beers) took away some of the pain of the move. Glad to have experienced your build threads and good luck on the new place. Always a happy day to see an update..can't wait to see what you save next!

  20. Thank you for allowing us to tag along on the builds. I’ve enjoyed and learned a lot.
I love these cars, but with a 32, 40 and 41, ever having one means parting with another.
I could “store” it for you while you move and build. You moving to the states?

The Stable is getting fuller. You have some exiting options for putting a smile on your face thats for sure. Congratulations on these milestones including a move. All the best in that. What will be the next mover and shaker in the collection...hmmm

I really enjoyed this thread as there are so many similarities to my 62 Biscayne build. This was well written, informative, and great inspiration for my build. Hopefully by spring, my carcass of a car will be running and driving

I can tell you one thing, the process/result was perfect (IMO) as it is all FOMOCO and every single detail is well thought out and executed.

It appears as a stocker but in reality is a STREET SLEEPER.
