Got a chance to get my hands on a '57 ford Meteor (Canadian Fairlane). Not too much info on the internet about them, anyone know how rare they are here? Any HAMBers havew on and have pics of it?

  2. the car was a Mercury Meteor,it is not a Fairlane. It did resemble a Ford however ;).I imagine it might be rare in the states

Meteor is basically a Ford sold by Mercury dealers in Canada. There is probably one 57 Meteor for every 50 or 100 57 Fords in Canada, and 1 57 Ford in Canada for every 20 in the US.

The only diff between a Ford and a Meteor is the trim ie: grille, side trim, and name plates.

My second car was a 1961 mercury meteor. The car was near mint condition and I paid 50 bucks for it at a yard sale. Drove it my senior year in HS. Are you guys saying that it was sold in Canada only? Just curious.

I would think it would be a very rare car, even in Canada. I love the different trim & paint schemes on them. I had a 56 Meteor CV back in the day. Had to sell it in 69 when I got drafted. Its the one car I would most like to have back.

Yes, Meteors were usually sold only in Canada by Mercury dealers. They also made a Mercury for Ford dealers called a Monarch.

Meteors were made from 1947 or 48 until about 1972. At least, the newest Meteor I remember was a 1971 or 72. They had models called Niagara, Rideau, Rideau 500, Montcalm and Montcalm LeMoyne.

In 1961 Meteors were sold in the US. They were based on the full size Mercury. In 1962 and 63 there was a Mercury version of the Fairlane called Meteor sold in the US. Other than those 3 years they were sold only in Canada.
