I'm building a custom and want to use a wrap around windshield with the forward leaning "A" pillars. GMs didn't use them until 58 and they are wider than I need. I was wondering if anyone out there with a 57 Ford would measure the width of their windshield for me. I need a measurement inside from the lower left corner of the glass, straight across the dash to the lower corner on the right side. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  3. I'll measure mine for ya tomorrow. Mine's a 70A 2 dr Custom. Will be the same A pillar as a Ranchero or wagon. The windshield center height of the Customs is 1" taller (17")than those of a Fairlane(16"), and some Fairlanes may have a different angle on the A pillar....not positive on that. But I think converts and retracs are different from Fairlane hardtops, posibly a difference in sedan Fairlanes vs hardtops.
Front sheetmetal on all '57's is the same, so it would follow that all windshields are the same width.

  5. Welcome to the forum! What measurement do you need? I'm curious though....The Chebbie guy had an unusual reason for needing measurements, I'm curious why you need them as one would order a windshield according to the model number of their car. Got a special project going on?
I'm also trying to figure out why my measurement isn't posted. My windshield is installed, so any measurements will be approximate as I obviously can't get to the glass edges.

  6. Note that hard tops are shorter than sedans or post 2dr coupes. Also there are Thinderbirds if you need to go narrower.
Mine is in long term storage in the high desert. Sorry can't measure it.
