Nice find. I like what you are doing in preserving as much of the car as possible. Thanks for sharing.
Since you aren't nuts about the original details here is something you might not realize is a "big deal"... and would help you get it set up like you want. Windy, but here is one suggestion - I can't quite tell in the pics - looks like you might have the 1-piece ("CA") bumper, at least on the front. Is it? If yours is the one-piece, good for you. Since you aren't a stock nut, leave the accy. guards on it and sell it off - it is worth stupid money (accessory front guards are not a big deal, can still be found NOS, but will be a little plus). One-piece bumpers are a hot item. I have seen people get bunche$ for them. If both front and rear are 1-piece instead of 3 sections, sell them and cash in, then buy straight 3-piece ones for MUCH less $. You will still have cash leftover to almost buy the expensive 1957-only seat. 1-piece bumpers are one of the 1955-57 items you can always sell fast, for good $. Some Barret Jackson person always is restoring a convertible they want optioned as original, or trying to fake it up, making it better-optioned than it originally was. And if they really have a CA car that has rusty bumpers you can get good $ for them. Seat: As recently as last year I parted with a solid 1957 front 2-door seat. On craigslist L.A. for 12 hours, and at $700. the guy did not even haggle. Crazy. That is why I like 1956s so much more than 1957s for myself!
57's didn't have one piece rear bumpers only fronts were one piece. 55&56 had one piece front and rear.
1pc 57 front bumpers used to bring in anywhere between 300-500. They now are reproduced , so im sure it affected the value somewhat.
Expect alot of work on that roof. I see alot of bubbling and a hole and its always 10 times worse than it looks. Its a 57 nomad though, great car, good luck! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Don't forget the skirts that go around the bottom of the front seat. 2 doors are 2 pieces, 4 doors are one.
What about a decent set of 14 x6 for the front 15 x 7 on the rear. Currantly have them on my car and the fronts clear the disc brakes i'm running. Decent tires too, rears are fairly new. H7814 front, g-60 15 rear.
My 56 Nomad is running an old set of Torq Thrusts, 15x7 fronts and 15x8.5's on the back with a stock differential. The fronts fit fine with no rubbing anywhere (it has front discs) but the back 'just fit' because someone did a little 'trimming' of the wheelwell lip. I see you have an alternator so your power steering isn't the old piggyback pump at the back end of the generator. What sort of PS do you have? Mike T.
Its worth what someone is willing to give you for it-which you may or maynot accept.Anymore cancer found on it?
Solid?? big rust holes in roof = solid? Scuff and prime the rust? Look, I am not trying to be a smart ass here, but am I seeing a different car then you guys? The one that shows up on my screen looks like it has serious rust issues.
i know where a 55 nomad garage kept two owner is setting ---been there 20 yrs ---too conflicted to try to buy it from my friends widow---i know i would end up selling it and making money---it has a 350/350 in it with the 265/glide under the bench---your find has got me thinking...
if you're that conflicted. Settle on a price with her, then if you sell it, give her half of your profit after intial investment and upgrades. Seems like a fair deal then.
Great thread and congrats.......I too have a project 57 Nomad and have it for sale........you would think the phone would be ringing off the hook as i have it priced right. Has all the hard to get ingredients too! along with the typical floor and brace issues. Not trying to sell it on this thread as it is not the place sooooooo.........what a great find and plans for yours.....enjoy it for what it is .....you will get as much attention as a 6 figure resto mod Mad as people like to see all Nomads in all conditions. They are certainly cool cars........I have a 55 in mind as soon as the 57 leaves the nest. Good luck with the car .
Had / sold several nice, solid ones...Never seen anyone actually get...even $200.. They are something that is rarely missing. I have sold decent ones with the B/A Nomad edge trim on them for less than $200.. Someone'll need it and take it off your hands, it just isn't a big ticket item unfortunately. So hopefully someone local is the buyer when you sell it. Much easier!
