  1. Sweet score on the Nomad!

  2. Nice. I like your plans for it. A guy up the road here has a 55, 56 and 57, and i think hes got another still coming down from the states. Going to keep him busy for a long time. I look forward to seeing it going.

Had similar rust to fix on a 210 wagon so I used 19 ga cold rolled steel, formed a repair panel with a Pullmax type machine. 48" x approx 4" high, 1/4" welding flange. That goes up high enough to planish any welds..

Typical rust from condensation over the years:

  7. When I weighed my old three piece against the new one piece the one piece was actually heavier.... but the one piece was prettier so I stuck it on anyway. ;)

Memories...I bought my first 57 Nomad from Boxley Auto Wrecking in Sun Valley, complete for $50.00 in 1968. The tenents had moved and left the car, so the landlord called Boxley and told him "get this thing outa here!" It took a while to get the new pink. My next one cost a lot more ..:)

You probably already found out but the steering shaft is part of the box, you'll need to cut it and add a rag joint for your new column or change to amodern box

I ended up doing the same with mine. Nobody wanted mine for free because the condition was unknown.

  17. Keeping up with the thread .........lots of interest on your cars progress.....great car to cruise in/ parts runner, etc. tooo cool.......well I posted a while back on my 57 Nomad and possibly moving it along to another enthusiast since acquiring my 55 Nomad.........well here goes.........being different;), I have mind built my 57 into a mid engine gasser:eek:.....sort of like the 55 Chevado from back in the day.. The purists will send me to Nomad prison with the walls covered with pics of restored Nomads for even thinking such thoughts. :D. Some would say it is just plain wrong .......but done "right" in gasser mode.........Hilborn injected, zoomies coming out from the front of rear tire, straight axle, body done lazer straight, Inca Silver, Ivory top, or candy colored........an extreme machine..........I think......it would be innovative, wild, and would draw criticism as well as enthusiasm.......drama as they say........ which we all know is what drives the tv car/reality shows. Well this is just a dream but for me.... once I think of something it gets me in trouble:eek:. What goes on between my ears is sometimes scary but is a lot of fun too:). Just thought I would share these coffe/caffeine induced thoughts this morning. Good luck with your car......keep posting ....great thread.
