Technical 57 olds/57 chevy

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Boneyard_classics, Sep 1, 2015.

  1. I have a 57 olds 98 I'm putting on air ride. Since there is no complete kits it'll either be completely custom or mismatch a few kits.. I was looking on ridetech and they have a 57 Buick front kit which I'm sure I can make work but for the back there is a 55-57 Chevy rear 4 link kit I was wondering if I can make work.. I never worked with a 57 Chevy frame or rear what do they compare to the olds? Thanks for any info!

They frame and rear suspension on an Olds 98 is nothing like the '57 Chevy. Sorry.

The rear of the Olds and Chevy are alike in that they both have parallel leaf springs and separate body/frame construction. Dimensions vary, and that may have an impact on adaptability, but in general they are similar.

My bad - I was thinking of '57 Buick.

  5. Thanks for the info everyone what I've been gathering from around is the Chevy frame seems pretty straight from the back to the middle (from the top) and the olds gets wider in the middle where the "X" cross members are and is tighter in the back if I can get Confirmation on that it would probably be easy to make or get a universal 4 link kit...has anyone used the ride tech 57 Buick front bags that have measurements of the base by chance?

Just chiming in and not knowing anything but if it's an x frame would u be able to use like a later Impala kit? I get that it's not coil spring but maybe that set up would fit, if u were thinking of going 4 link anyway?

  7. It's different then that kind if X frame the olds has a square frame with cross members that cross each other in the middle making a x
