Anyone know if the outer rear bumper sections for a '57 Pontiac 4dr snd are the same as station wagons? Thanks
I believe all the 57 rear bumpers are the same, but the tail light ***emblies are different. The hardtops(2 door and 4 door and Custom Safari wagon)use one type and the pillared sedans and regular wagons use another.
All the 57 Poncho bumpers are the same, but they came with open (dual exhaust) or closed bumper tips.
Thanks for the correction on that Jivebomber;I thought the pillar sedans were the same as the wagons.Must be "Old-Timers" creeping up on me.
I went to look at the '57 wagon we PM'd about. It is the super rare "Interstate" and fully loaded. It has the "open" bumper ends. Unfortunately, it was in the middle of a 40' puddle, about a foot deep, so couldn't get very close. There does seem to be some rot in the bottom edge. I'll try to attach the best picture I could get. Sorry, the pic is "too big" to upload.
When you say "Interstate" you mean Transcontinental, I'm guessing... That 4 door wagon (model 2762SDF) was the very top of the line, introduced in Jan. of 57, and built in limited numbers... Under 2,000. Cool car!
didn't the safari(nomad style) use the p***enger car style housing? we had a transcontinental 4 door safari once, cool - leather interior, roof rack, head rests, about 1/4 of the car was covered in chrome trim.
Correct-- It was only the Chieftain & SuperChief trim level wagons that used the stubby taillight housing. StarChief Safari wagon's used the p***enger car ***embly.
