Alright i went to the local junkyard here in lakeside and saw this 58 delray 4 door sitting there. The guys said he will try to sell it complete but we should come buy this saturday to find out its fate. Now my question if it gets parted out what should i save? Quick run down of the car includes its one damn solid car, needs a floor and one quarter(asshole hacked it out on one side). Its got no motor or tranny but has a set of heads in the trunk, a set of brand new drums also in the trunk, box of parts in the trunk, interior is there, pretty much complete. If we get to gut it(dont want to but rather save some parts before it gets scrapped plus i aint got the room for a whole car) i wanna save the bumpers, various emblems, the taillights, the grill vessels and maybe the fender tops with the daul headlights. Anything else i should get from it?

    Take the whole car!
SOMEONE you know must have room for it.
Hell, they can go halves on it and split the profit.
If you get it cheap enough, you'll easily make your money back on the parts.

  5. Last one we scrapped I cut the dash out, steering column, pedal bracket, taillights, glass, handles, trim, saved a hood, a deck lid, and all sorts of other little crap. It was basically a bare shell with some broken or rotted parts left when it went. And I think we left the rusted solid 235 in it, too.

this one isnt like that. This one is really good actaully. Its still got the sterring collum in it an all. All it dont have is just some small emblems, motor(bunch of motor parts in trunk including a set of heads). Like i said its pretty much a complete car that only needs a floor and one quarter panel. There isnt any rust anywhere else. It even has the orignal paint on it and the rear trunk lid on the inside still has perfect orignal paint.

kind of the same yet different I parted a 60 El Camino and got over $3,000. that was old ebay though, things may be different these days.

when I parted cars I listed every bracket and clip. if it was reusable I listed it. I didn't toss anything on that car other than total junk rusty stuff.

    58 chevy,,, don't toss anything.

you guys would build the cars I part out here in Sunny California. I've never even seen a car with a rusted frame in person.

i will be going up there this weekend to talk to the junkyard owner. I will see what he does with it. If he lets me pull i will just pull the parts that probably no one wants(bumpers are rusted and slightly dented, emblems pitted, taillights faded, and cracked lenses) and then spread the word whats up there. I will see what he wants and tell you guys for sure. I would love to see this car actually saved.

If you can't save the whole car, at least save the front fenders complete. They are tough to find in solid condition and would probably bring some decent money in resale. Virtually all of the unrestored '58s I've ever seen are rotted around the headlights.
