Hi guys, Just got a 1958 Edsel the other day. 4 door hardtop Corsair with the big block 410! Has a lot of rust and dents but will be a cool beater driver car. Three big issues are wrong with it, carb needs to be rebuilt, wiper pull wire is seized so the switch won't activate wipers (but manually moving the motor switch makes them work), and the last thing. No horn.Well... Not huge issues but I'd like to get this inspected and on the road and those are on the list. I believe the horn itself and wiring is okay. I've never had a car from this era with a horn ring, so I'm not sure what it feels like... But there is no movement. I can't push the ring in at all... So I think I should start there. How does one remove an Edsel Horn Ring? This is a teletouch model if it makes a difference.
I had a 58 Villager wagon with the teletouch tans. It worked pretty good until it got hot from the exhaust, then you would sit for a half an hour, start it up and go, until it got hot, then repeat. This might help......it's a pdf file. http://restorecarscl***ifieds.com/wiki/show_pdf.pdf?n=15419
Thanks for that. Should be helpful. I went back out to it today to check it again. So it DOES in fact move, but I've got to really push on the outer ring. Again, not sure how sensitive these are supposed to be or how they feel. No horn while running, off, etc. I'll have to check the horn now...
There's no spring on the '58 Edsel horn ring, they used a rubber spacer instead. The rubber gets hard over the years... I believe you have to pull the Teletouch controls to get to the horn ring. If you pry the 'Edsel' medallion at the center off, that gives access to the screw that will remove the trim around the shift ****ons. There's screws for the controls, you can pull them up and unplug them, giving access. Pay very good attention to what's plugged in where....
Thanks Steve. Ive got to get the carb sorted out first. Found out today it wont even idle anymore without giving it gas! Cant shift it out of park in time, lol. Ill try and mess with it one of these days. It sounds like that rubber might be the issue. Miller, I have not checked the fuse, but that might be a good place to start! Just got the car yesterday so havent had too much time with it yet.
