I am new to pulling a trailer behind a vintage car and I was wondering where to start looking for a trailer hitch (preferably bolt on 'cause I am not welding a hitch to my 58 edsel wagon!) I have just purchased a 1954 Homesteader trailer and have plans for a restoration soon. I thought some hambers might be "TIN CAN TOURISTS" as well.
The 58 Edsel is on the same ch***is as the 58 Ford or the 58 Merc, depending upon which model Edsel you have. Any hitch that will fit those will fit your Edsel. All are bolt ons.
I don't know how things are in other areas, but if you don't have a late model 'round here, you ain't buyin' a bolt-on hitch. So, do what I did, take a few measurements, and take a trip to the junkyard. You'll be looking at SUVs and pickups, as those are the closest in frame configuration to what you have. You'll need a good imagination, and a welder, to make it happen. And don't get a receiver with the hitch in it, as you'll play hell getting it out. Cosmo
What cosmo said. I plan on making a hitch from a newer truck fit my 53 chevy Suburban, to pull our little Shasta.
Thanks guys! I guess I will have to fab up a bolt on one using a salvage piece........ I'll let you know how it goes.
