I honestly don't have any other pics! The car is about 8 hours from me and I always forget to take a camera with me when I go! I really like the 57's more but this one is a beauty! The trailer is really pretty cool too. I love how it has the same wheel openings as the 57/58 Ford to match.
I do have some more pictures but they are not good news... While my parents were travelling to good guys in Dallas the rear tire caught fire and the car was almost a goner... They threw water on it, a fire extinguisher, and everything else they had but in the end just had to get away from the car before the gas tank caught fire. The fire dept had to come and put the fire out before the car went up in flames. It brings to mind the thread about cl***ic car insurance from a few days ago. They do have good insurance on it so while it will be a lot of work to repaint it, at least it will be paid for.
That's awful! What happened? I'm glad to see no people were hurt and it looks like the car is a straightforward fix...
They were pulling the scottie trailer and I guess the tire got too low and got so hot it caught on fire. I am also glad no one was hurt. I am glad that my dad had the sense not to try and get a flaming tire off the car and call the fire dept.
Wow what a beautiful car!!!!!! Do you mind if I save the first picture? ..... I'm just glad that no one was hurt in the accident and that it do that much damage to that priceless beauty!
If that trailer is anything like mine, it only weighs about 1200-1500, and only has 200 pounds tongue weight. I plan on pulling mine with any of my old cars. Robert
Just be aware, this is reason enough for companies like Hagerty or Grundy to write you a policy or to cancel your policy.
I have and love my 58, it was my first car and I still have that car, have owned it now for 40 years!
We figured out what happened. The hubcab "walked" and cut off the valve stem, this caused it to get too low and then it rubbed on the inner fender well until it just got really hot. Makes me glad I run dog dishes on my wagon.
