My friend bought a '59 buick off some old rancher, it hadn't turned a wheel in about ten years. We replaced everything fluids, plugs, etc, it sounded pretty good in his driveway. I believe it has a two speed automatic dynoflow transmision. When we went to take it for a cruise there seemed to be a problem with it. It had to rev up pretty high start to engage. It didn't rev up and suddenly slam into gear, it was smooth but it had to be floored for it to start moving and we couldn't get it going fast enough to change gears or it just plain didn't want to. Any suggestions would be helpful!!!
aaahhh welcome to the world of the dyna-slow. i have one of those beasts in my buick it takes me like 20 minutes to cross the street. these trannies are very slow and no fun at all! i'm in the process now of doing my homework on tranny adapters and switching it out to a modern tranny. i felt the same way when i got my buick running, i thought some thing was the matter with the transmission...but no it's just a dynaflow. Guys, I am changing my tranny on my 59 now. Travez, I've talked with you,MM pm me and I'll tell you in detail what I did to fix the problem. You can buy an adapter or use a 64-66 sp400 tranny. TP
Yep, as they said, such is the nature of the dynaflow, especially a tired one. TP, are you ditching the torque tube?
Adapters--> http://www.transmissionadapters.com/53-66_nailhead.htm I have a '57 Roadmaster with the old dynaflow. I was going to install an adapter, but I think I'm going to sell the car instead. -Mike
