hi guys can anyone tell me what the spacers between the top wishbone and the ball joint are for, i have never seen them on any other 59s
Usta be common when It was fashionable to jack your car up. It's like you said...a ball joint spacer. Raises up the front suspension the thickness of the spacer.
In the late 60's they were used to give a car more front end lift off the line. It was a big thing on stock and super stock cars. Usually used with 90/10 shocks. It was also used as stated above. If you put big springs in your car to raise the front the upper a arm would not bottom out and could still move.
Hi The spacer was not to raise the car when not moving. There were for when you left the line and hammered the throttle the front end would raise higher until the upper control arm hit the upper rubber. this planted the back tires. There was also another kind that looked like a "C" and went in the same place and did the same thing. The problem with them was instant neg. camber big time and over time they would break the upper control arm where they mounted and you would replace or put in new ones. Regards Dave Also they were used as stated above
Dave Thats the perfect explanation of how a ball joint spacer works. They also allow one to install taller or stiffer springs to get that gasser look but you lose the sudden lift/ weight transfer that the stock springs and loose or 90/10 up lock drag shocks offer Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
As one stated, the spacer DID NOT raise the car while standing at rest. What they did do was to allow the front of the car to raise a little farther during launch while keeping the tires on the ground for better weight transfer AND...still have some control of the car (steering). Mike
