Getting ready to start putting together a 302 roller/C4 swap in the 56 Customline. I have a 59 Edsel in the back yard. Decent 9 inch to use for the project or should I look for something a little newer like a Maverick? Not a race car just a weekend cruiser! Thanks in advance
Should be lots of parts around for a 9 inch. Great rear, but check the width. Stock 56 rear is 57 1/4 wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface . 57-59 Fords were the same width, the spring pads may even match up. Don't know about the Edsel rears.
If it's just a weekend cruiser and you don't beat the **** outta it, your stock '56 rear should hold up fine.

I have to point out, in the above list, that under "57 1/4", that it is wrong in including the 1960 - 1964 full size cars. The rear tread for 57 - 59, is 56 7/16" and 60 - 64 is 60".
