Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by J.Fishbeck, Jan 2, 2010.

  1. Very cool.. I think back to when I would see a '59-'60 El Camino at a car show or wherever. They really stand out, they make that "wow" impact. I look forward to seeing your progress.. an sommemore pics!

  2. Droooooool...........elcos.........slurp..drooooool.

  3. Here is a pic I took before I left for the machine shop.

All the pieces not made for these El Caminos, makes me wonder how big the market is, for all the hard to get/find not reproduced. Interesting..

  6. I used Chassis Saver instead of SEMs Rust Seal. 3hrs between coats, but it has good coverage.

I brushed it on everywhere I could reach up in there.. what I had left, I applied it to the floorboards

Joe has the 350, I was going to use in my El Camino, running w/ the Three Twos. Pretty Cool

My Dad loves 3x2's.. he could reminisce all day about 'em! His last set up was probably around '65. A while ago, Gary Maroney, brought up the 3x2s & his 60 Impala Coupe he had w/ a 348 & a 4bbl. He stopped at a light, and the guy next to him in, also in 60 Impala- 348 w/ 3x2's.. an asks if Maroney's has a single 4bbl. Tells him, yeah. And the guy says, you wanna trade straight across? Gary Agrees, and they head off to do the work & make the swap. So Gary gets it to the drags, an it ran slower than the single 4bbl... Cool to look at, I guess!

  7. Got a phone call today.. guy wants to sell a 305 crate motor to me for 600.00. Might buy it, if it has a one piece rear main seal. Inner support is done, nothing like waiting for paint to dry. Dad says I'm milking this job.. I say, I'm just more thorough.

  8. Nice day out today..

The moisture in the air, helps the Chassis Saver paint cure. The tempurature slows dry time. I should have already done this side of the qtr, but I didn't know how this stuff was going to be.

I will clean the spots where I'm going to weld it, like I did when I welded on the outer support today.

Drilled holes to attach wire or whatever, to the butt weld clamps. Maybe I can retrieve them after use this way. We'll see..

I just read thru this whole thread...great work! Your inspiring me to get my ass in gear on my '60. BTW, those lower valences do suck...I over paid for shitty ones too.

  10. Thanks, I look forward to great.. I'd say I'm just okay! Haha. I have been told repops are on the way, for new lwr valances. I'm sure they will be over priced as well, but if they are of decent gauge.. what are you gonna do?(Ferget about it!) Get it in gear.. and let the clutch out! I love 59 - 60 2dr Sedans.. very cool

Damn good idea with the wire trick for getting the squares out, I wish I'd thought of that.

  12. We'll see if it works, as soon as I'm done with lunch!

  13. Shit's coming up roses..

The holes for the wires work great.. if the block happened to fall down in between the qtr pnl & the inner structure, you just grab the wire to get it out!

Trimming the pnl to fit, burned up most of the time necessary, to get it right.

Stitching along.. I look forward to finishing the rest now. I seen some rust in my rockers, too. After I put my wind wings together, tomorrow.. I will check out the rockers!

I read somebodies signature on here.. it read "My welding skills have definetly improved my grinding skills." AMEN, Brother!

I'm starting to see a little bity light, at the end of this tunnel.. I can't wait!

Hey fishbeck I have a question.
After your small tacks to fit it in initially, did you weld it completely? Or what did you use to seal the in between the tacks?

Rock on man, rock on! Inspiration........

  16. Weld, Grind & Repeat.. until there's no holes or high spots! I wish they made a magic cream that went between the tacks, cos' bondo won't cut it!

  17. I had my Dad hold the wind wing frames, while I pounded in (with a rubber hammer) the glass & felt.

Earlier today, I used more metal prep to remove the flash rust before I painted the wind wing assy's.

This weekend, starting Friday, is El Mirage! I'll be there, so not much is going to get done around here, til Monday. Tomorrow, I am going to go mow my good friends lawn. His family is coming in from all over, for his graduation. But, he is unable to do any real work right now. See, the owner of Metro Nissans 21yr old daughter, turned left in front of him, in her new 2010 Altima. His sternum was cracked, fiance has bad stomach bruises from seat belts & both cars totaled. All this, 2 days before finishing the nursing program & taking his last, final exam. Well, he was able to take the exam today & passed with a 88%. That's the least I can do, I can understand wanting the house to look presentable. Ok, I'll shut up now..

Hey J, where do ya get vent window rubbers from?

  20. Steele Rubber.. in North Carolina. I got mine from The Car Shop in Orange, Ca. But they just played middle man, they often do. I would just get it from them.. Steele Rubber is on Ebay also!

  21. Rust capitol Effin' sucks! Grinding the rockers uncovered some more work for me to do.

I used the Makita die grinder to get rid of the cancer.. The hits just keep on coming.

I've since got this low spot up from where it was. I marked the rear section where it needs to be cut, also.

I hope you're not going to chase every hole in those rockers, just replace 'em.

Cool that's what Ive been doing on my trunk pan.I just recently started some small patches on my lower quarters and I had to skip around quite a bit to keep it from warping.I thought you might have been using led on top of the welds.
    Thanks.

  29. I am going to replace the rockers, it's a must. I wanted them to be better than they actually are.. So I was convinced(in denial) that I could save them. I will pick some up this week, from The Car Shop in Orange. I have to go to Santa Ana, any damn way!

On another note.. El Mirage track conditions went away, early. I learned a lot about what it takes to run a LSR. It takes a lot, period..
