Mine was built in MO too! I bought mine from Mitchell SD, the guy who owned it bought it in 61 and drove it as his daily until he parked it in his barn in 04...kinda crazy its all original. I can't believe some of the stuff held up for the way he drove the car. I didn't get stung, I hate wasps so I doused the inside of it with a can of raid and ran away.

  3. Yeah, I meant MO. MS in my mind, seems more like it should rep Missouri. Amazing how these "Old American Cars" were meant to last. Today a good friend came by so I could replace a broken wheel stud, on his 94 Honda Accord. Short story, I didn't get to work on my 59 today! Tomorrows another day..

Fitting this Camaro trans tunnel I had laying around.. more work than fabbing a new one. Experience is the best teacher(even if she keeps smacking me with a effin ruler!)

Sure did.I'm thinking about getting my 2 door 51 Merc going.Maybe a door wagon? But I have a friend with a 29 Model A Roadster Pickup with a real tempting offer. He wants my 31 Pickup Project and some cash, it needs wiring and exhaust to get it driveable. It would leave me some cash to work on my merc, probably not enough. It seems like your really motivated in getting your 59 going.

This my first project, where it's just me doin' it all. I bought a 4'x8' pc of shtmtl 20 gauge, but they gave me 18 gauge. I'm a BAAaad man, an I didn't say anything. The 18 Gauge is stubborn, but my new shop truck will always appreciate the new strength. So, yeah.. I'm really motivated.

I'm still playing connect the dots....
I have to make all those filler patches when I get back outside riight now. 72 degrees outside.. I'm lovin' it right now. I enjoy welding when it's cool. I want to get all the hard work done in "cooler" winter monthes.

    Congrats, get that Merc going.

  10. I thought everybody had one of these(haha).. I keep hearing stories everytime someone see's mine, how they know someone who had one-has one with a 283 swapped out for a 409 / 4spd- flamed by Roth & on & On..
I seen a silver & pink metal flaked 60 elky a couple monthes before I found mine. It was parked in front of "Johns Burger".. Thinking back, I never would of guessed I'd have one, too..

Great thread for a great car. '59 El Caminos are super bitchen. '60s are nice too; I remember Marky Izardi had a '60 El Camino a few years ago that was interesting--slammed on Astros and with, I think, early Mustang buckets. Kinda neat, though.

'59s, though, are the shizz-net. Yours looks like it's coming along really well. Best of luck with it.

  12. I had decided to paint it "Off White" w/ a "Medium Green" interior. i haven't been able to find green carpet i like tho'. I like to start with the carpet, cos it's easier to match everything else from there.

But, today I was looking at the drivers fender. It's "California Gold" color.
I think the "Gold" is a better idea.. w/ black fins & blk interior.

  13. Thanks, Greg! Oh Yeah, Thanks again for bringing my attention to the H.A.M.B!
I think I'm motivated now, since I look forward to updating the thread, here. I appreciate it!

    edited cos, just cos..

A lot of work but well worth it IMO. I've always wanted a '59 El.

Man my older brother bought one of these when we were kids back in the eighties. It was sitting in an old mans yard outside of town up on a hill and the back was all full of trash, and it didnt have any seats, but it ran! My brothers drove it home sitting on milk crates, with me and my mom following. I've never seen them laugh so hard, every time they went around a corner they slid across the car! I've always regretted not riding with them.

  17. Tomorrow I should be finishing up the floor boards. I need to get it down to the weight station for an "official weigh in" The DMV still considers it a commercial vehicle, being it's a truck of sorts!
Then it's on to the Qtrs! The work actually sets me free.. I'm reallly enjoying it.

  18. I'm smiling just visualizing that.. Thats a thread in it self.

98% done w/ the floors.. the other cancer spots won't be so awkward to work with.
My Dad suggested painting it "White" w/ "Red" guts!
Glad I have time to figure it out!

That´s nice lookin´. Both the Car/truck and the progress Your making on it. I see someone added Impala trim on Your dash lowers. I myself would just about kill to be in a position to be working on something like that outside at this time of the year... Your 72 degrees F sounds about right for a nice afternoon in July where I come from, LOL.
    Best of luck.

    Hey there,

Personally, I think gold is a great choice, but I'd probably do it all gold, with maybe some kind of a flake over the gold, just on the roof.

I have a huge jar of heavy orange flake that I'm saving for when I ever do a '60s car (at this rate, probably never).

I thnik metallic blue would be a good color, just my opinion though.

  29. There was a blue one sitting outside Earl Scheib down the street, about a week after I got mine(Oct 5 '09). There's also a Pale turquoise & white 59 Elco thats local also.

I had an idea last night about the red upholstery. Use burgundy carpet, & two tone the door panels w/ matching burgundy material(matched to the carpet) then break into the red about the heigth of the seat bottom.

I was thinking about the black fins idea.. since it would take the eye away from the bed, which will probably be black.

  30. J - You and flt-blk both have given me some motivation. Keep up the good work and keep us informed of your progress. Pix are great. Gotta finish the coupe, but my '59 Elky has been sitting in the back of the garage long enuf. It's next! Did I just happen to be post #59? What a coincidence!! :D
